Question about Yamaha Electrical Supplies

1 Answer

I have a Yamaha 2400i genset. It is showing voltage from the neutral to ground and the inverter it feeds is in alarm with reverse polarity. Doesn't this mean the neutral is shorted to the hot windings creating a difference of potential between the neutral and ground now?

It is likely not a winding short but more likely in wiring or components in the inverter. Remove output connections and with simple loads like light bulbs check the conditions of the genset itself.

Note: Small digital voltmeters will respond to the tiny currents caused by the capacitance of wiring and windings giving false readings. Use know loads like light bulbs to draw current during test.

I have an eliminator1500w power inverter. Why doesn't have Chasey ground port?

check the power lead in and if it only has an active and a neutral pin ( 2 pins ) it is internally insulated and will not require a ground
if it is a genset there should be a 3 pin outlet and that will have the ground wire grounding out through the house ground
if you feel it necessary, attach a ground to the chassis and to a meter long spike in the ground
read the user instructions

Why my apc ups change its polarity after mains failuer

Probably because polarity at the plug is reversed, check for that.
There is a red LED at the back of the unit, if it is lit, polarity at the plug is reversed, you will have to correct this.

Just hooked up 8 smoke alarms to ademco 20P security system. All have solid red light showing smoke detection except for last one with EOLR.

check your polarity, if your using a polarity reversal module make sure you have the polarity correct on the feed voltage and the input voltage.

Honda eu10i reverses polarity on boat

Polarity lights in AC means that it thinks the wrong input lead is earthed ie neutral.

If polarity detector is showing that there is no neutral earth bond it may not be a bug but a feature, as standard the EU10i would not have an earth neutral bond.

Otherwise I can not see why your detector thinks there is a polarity reversal.

I need to replace the cigarette lighter plug on my 175 W mobile power inverter. Unfortunately I removed the old plug without checking the connections for polarity. reverse polarity will permanently damage...

  • One wire is the hot and the other wire is the ground.
To find which wire is the ground wire,Take a volt meter and set it on ohms, connect one of volt meters leads to case ground, take the other volt meters lead and touch it to one on the inverters wire, when the needle or digital read out advances or makes a buzzing sound, depending on the type of meter you use, that is the ground side. Black is usually ground and red hot.center connector for lighter socket is the hot side.

Microwave fuse blowing???

You really need to check that circuit for ground and neutral faults before using it again.

Still having water problems...

Be VERY careful that you do not generate a shock hazard by connecting the electrical wiring wrong. From the feed, the BLACK wire is HOT and the WHITE wire is NEUTRAL. DO NOT REVERSE these leads.

If the frame of the dishwasher is not grounded (which, from your description, I suspect that it's not), a VERY SERIOUS SHOCK HAZARD could result from wiring it up backward.

That said, the water valve is operated on AC current and thus could care less about polarity of the current coming into it. The fact that you reversed input polarity and it worked is purely coincidence. The fact that you opened the circuit when you made the switch may not be, but ALWAYS follow this convention: BLACK-TO-BLACK, WHITE-TO-WHITE, AND BARE TO GROUND. I can't emphasize this enough.

Although the ground and the neutral lead are ultimately connected to the same buss NEVER use the ground lead as a conductor. ALWAYS connect the white wire to the neutral (white) side of the circuit.

And PLEASE be sure that your neutral buss is well grounded from the breaker box. This could cause a VERY SERIOUS SHOCK HAZARD if it is not. Not to mention it could affect how any appliances and other devices connected to the circuit might work.

Does anyone know how to repair Genset generators? I have tested the windings, the diodes and capasitor all seem ok. threis not an AVR. when i excite the capasitor the voltage comes up but won't stay, but...

You need to check the exciter circuit for the gen field. If there isn't a voltage regulator, there is going to be a circuit feeding the field. It could even be a 'permanent magnet' rotor inducing the voltage for the stator.

Dear sir I have Powerware 9120 UPS since Jan-2007 to till now but yesterday it was getting problem and LCD show SITE FAULT Error what is meaning of that and why it occor and what is sholution. now it is...

If UPS is displaying "Site Fault", it is doing its job correctly. You need to check the wall receptacle. Probably hot and neutral reversed, or the neutral and ground are reversed, by whom ever installed the wall receptacle. You need to have the plug-in for the UPS intact, i.e. the ground pin must not have been cut off. If an extension cord connects the UPS to the wall, thge cord must be working correctly.

Fues blown in xpower inverter 1750 plus

These fuse are often intend to protect voltage inversion. (reverse voltage)
So, if the eight fuse are blown, then maybe the voltage red and black wire were not connected to the correct polarity.

then again, even if these fuse are intend to be use as reverse protection, it may occure that transformer short out, transistor short out and many other short circuit inside the inverter as occure.

So replacing all eight fuse might not restore the unit function, they may even blow again.
Also, reversing polarity that cause the fuse to blow might have damage the transistor stage.

I am still, investigating few other problem with those unit.
I don't have all answer yet.

Hitheck
