Had the same problem, your ice maker is a known defect, insist they replace it. Don't expect heavy ice output -- our biggest complaint.

Possibly the defrost element is faulty, this is located behind a cover in the back of the freezer compartment and is attached to the fins of the evaporator. It also has a defrost limit thermostat which could also be the problem. I presume that the fan is working after you have defrosted the unit?

By placing the first 3 letters in the search feature it will take you to models like yours. Chose the correct model that you have and enter the number in the search. I believe that the water control valve on back of your refrigerator is the problem. Maytag is very good about helping their customers. Perhaps there is not enough water coming into the tray on each cycle? Are the ice-cubes very thin? If so timer needs to be reset. LG use a 3-switch DIP on a control panel near the main power board. By changing these switches to various combinations of on/off you can change the timing - longer means more water each time (but too much water means overflow into the blocks already made).
There are service manuals that explain what each setting does - but because its near the high-voltage power board, I'd suggest you get a repairman unless you are a good DIY'er
