Question about Adaptec 2610SA (0H2052) Serial ATA Controller

1 Answer

Hi. We have a ML110 server with RAID 5 (4x250gb HD SATA) in a Adaptec 2610SA. The RAID has 2 Arrays (#00 Operating System and #01 Data). We have tried to replace a failed HD and since then the Windows cannot start. It shows us that the Array #00 cannot be configured (following arrays have missing required members and cannot be configured). Array #01 Data seems to be ok. Any clue ?

Did you make sure that your hard drive has been made into a "dynamic volume" instead to the usual "simple volume"? It has to be "dynamic" before your can put it into a RAID configuration. You will have to use your RAID Controller to create a dynamic volume or to make the hard drive part of a dynamic volume.

The new HD is a brand new direct from HP. At this moment the Array #1 (Data) is in rebuilding process (32 % so far). But I cannot "see" the Array#0 (Operating System). I will wait until the rebuilding of the Array#1 of the RAID is done to see if the Array #0 returns... If not, do wyou think I can try to recreate the Array #0 for this RAID ? I have the information about the Array #0 (Size, Stripe, Type).

You may be able to, but that will most likely exceed my scope of experience. If its in the rebuilding process, then I would assume for now that everything will be fine once its finished rebuilding Array #1.

Ok. Thanks a lot. I'll let you know as soon as it ends. I think just tomorrow. Thanks

Operating system corrupted how to recover the data

RAID is only to protect data in case of hard drive failure. Data is only recoverable from backup.

However, if you have a separate arrays for the OS and data. Meaning two arrays, you can swap arrays onto an identical server with same array configuration. Drive positions (bay /slot) are critical.

I have got a 3 disk raid5 IBM xseries Server which does not boot. How can I resque data from these disks?

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you don't have a good backup of the data on your RAID array. So, generally speaking, the operating system is probably installed on a separate disk from your raid array (not a guarantee). But if this is so then you should be able to reinstall your operating system and drivers (esp RAID controller) to that (separate) disk and you're off to the races (replace this system disk if necessary). -OR- Depending on the make of your RAID controller you may be able to transplant your RAID controller into another machine and all the original drives along with it, so long as it has a battery backup and you place all the drives in their original order. If there is no battery backup on your RAID controller then DON'T PULL THE PLUG ON THE ORIGINAL MACHINE AND DON'T EVEN CONSIDER removing the RAID controller in any way. If you have any doubts, whatsoever, have someone with experience in RAID arrays do the work for you. It will be well worth it! (RAID arrays aren't for the faint of heart)...

Dell RAID controller in HP server? Hi i have dell (Adaptec) CERC SATA1.5/6ch RAID card, now i want to use this card in HP proliant ml150 g3 server, after fixing this card server did not recognize it keeps...

This particular device will require drivers for the Operating System to use. Also the hard disk drives will have to be installed an initialized outside the Operating System first before use. This is usually during startup after the system BIOS.

The exact steps can be found on the RAID card manufacturer's web site.

if you have the RAID 0+1 or 1 ,beacause of the mirroring ,2 disk will be the same.you should be attention ,if you transfer data on the first disk, you must boot your server with that disk.when the system boot completely then you put the second disk ,beacause of the Raid 0+1 or 1 the data of the first disk automatically write on the second disk.
