Question about Dryers

1 Answer

The timing knob on my dryer wouldn't turn, it would just spin without selecting a setting so I pulled the knob off and tried using pliers to turn the plastic shaft to select a setting. It worked a couple of times till the plastic shaft broke. Is that replaceable?

Both the timer and the knob is replaceable.
Locate the model number of the unit. Here's info on how to find it:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=+86673100&pathTaken=partSearch

You can get the timer and the knob from www.searspartsdirect.com or call 1-800-252-1698.
Once you have the part, remove the screws from the back of the control panel, removing the back cover. From there you should see the timer. It will either have one wiring harness or many wires attached to the timer. INSURE UNIT IS UNPLUGGED WITH NO POWER TO IT. If there is a harness, unplug the harness. The timer will be held in place either by a couple screws on the front of the control panel that is normally hidden by the knob AND/OR a screw INSIDE the control panel at the timer. There could also be a plastic tab holding the timer in place. Raise this tab and turn timer until it is free. Remove timer and put new timer in place. Fit harness onto timer.
If there are many wires attached to the old timer, I would hold the new timer in my hand and transfer the wires one-by-one to insure you get the right wires on the right terminal tab. Once wires are transferred, remove old timer and put new timer in place.
At this point. put new knob on the timer on the front of the control panel. Plug unit in, stay clear of exposed wiring, and test dryer. If it works, replace back cover and you are done.
If it doesn't work, further troubleshooting will be needed and Ill need the make and model number.
Hope this helps. Please take a minute to give a testimonial if I've help you.
Thanks, G

The temperature knob for the driver spins but the red light does not move to change the temperature

Without year make model it is hard to,offer advice. You may have a bad climate controler or a bad knob. The knobs just pull off and you can turn the control stud by hand or a small pair of pliers to see if there is any change. If no change once the control, stud is turned, the controller will be faulty

How can I start dryer without Knob 123c7931-2?

All you need to do is use a small pair of pliers to turn the shaft that the knob slids onto. Its best to go to a parts place that sells new and used partsand get a knob that works.

The dryer heats up and spins without issues. The problem seems to be in the dry cycle selection knob, it used to be a bit stiff when turning it to different cycles. Now, it seems very loose and it only...

Try pulling out the knob and turning the post wth your fingers. You will have to caibrate it yourself. If this does not work, You will have to rplace the control board behind the knob.

Cannot set Control dial for wash cycle. Knob will not move indicator dial. Rotating without engaging indicator. Thanks

Pull the center knob strait off. I suspect the center shaft of the knob is broken. If it is order a new knob but before replacing it make sure the shaft on the timer does not have a metal sleeve from the knob remaining on the timer shaft. Temporarily you can try to use needle nose pliers to turn the shaft to see if the washer works.

The start knob doesn't engage when pulled. Do I just need to replace the knob assembly? Is it difficult?

Take the knob off and try using pliers to pull the stem. Don't pull any harder than you would with the knob. If it works, you just need a knob. If it still won't engage, you need a timer.

Removing Timer knob on Kenmore Electric dryer

Normally, to remove the timer knob, simply push in on the timer knob and turn the knob counter clockwise. it should unscrew itself. If it does not, the shaft inside the timer has broken and the shaft simply free wheels so then you need to take a needle nose pliers to hold the shaft and then you can turn the knob or pull it off

Kenmore Elite Dryer HE4 Quietpak 9, has 4 dim lights showing on the console display but won't start or respond, I have bought brand new and replaced all sensors. Replaced heating element. looked like the original heating element. Pack came with new sensors. I did not test with a multimeter. My plan is to measure continuity on all the old sensors. Then do the same on the new ones. The electronic board looks good, does not smell burnt or old burnt smell. I cleaned all the lint in this dryer but unfortunately the motor has some lint in it which I surfaced cleaned. The only way to get to the motor is to remove the drum. So far I have soent $40 on all parts and a week works of troubleshooting as a novice. On the main display read, it shows two small dim lot red lines, wish I could send you a picture. Also when the fuse is off I plugged in the dryer and all the lights turned on normal. All looked in working condition except of course it did not turn on, I have not replaced the switch and with the new fuse, by the way, I bought 5 to 6 of the same fuses thinking I was burning them, that's why I bought a multimeter to retest them to see if they are not burnt. When I plug in the fuse it goes black but the door light works. I have held down the start button, nothing, held down the cancel button, nothing, I have done the crazy push all buttons even shook the machine a bit just in case something was causing whatever myth I was conjuring. I am about to give up and just buy a used one from someone else but I think I can fix this, it should be very simple to fix.
