No image appearing after shot only black screen

Make sure you set it to "auto-review" and that the time is long enought to look at it. Pressing the shutter release will skip the image review and keep the LCD in shooting mode.

I just got my new Nikon D80 but cannot get the LCD screen to light up. Where do I find the setting or the LCD screen to have it on while shooting pictures?

The D80 does not use the LCD screen to take images. The screen is only used to review images and use the menu system to check or change camera settings. When shooting, you need to use the viewfinder above the screen.

Similar problems as other readers. camera turns on but no real time image on LCD screen. LCD contiues to show settings i.e. full auto mode etc. But I can view pictures already taken. Thanks

The XTi and prior EOS models have not capability to see the live image to be shoot on the screen. Only the image after taken can see on the screen. Other images also using the view mode.

If you can't review the images, eve if the display is turned off, just after they are taken, maybe the "Review time" is set to "off". Go to settings, 3th tab, Review time and set the desired setting.

Nikon D40 Turn camera on, and it used to display the photo I was ready to shoot. Had this feature for a few weeks, now I only get the menu and a black screen How can I get that display back?

If you were seeing the image before you shoot, there was definitely something wrong with your camera.

The D40 does not have a Live View feature. The display is for menus, shooting information, and image review. Not preview.

Hey sbrittannia,
This camera does not have what is called live preview where you can see what you're shooting and compose the image on the LCD screen. What it does have is image review which should display the image just taken on the LCD screen for about 2 seconds. If your camera is not doing this it means image review has been turned off. You can turn image review on or off under custom setting 6 which is described on page 88 of your camera manual. I have included a link to a PDF download of your camera manual in case you need it. I hope this helps!

Busy Signal when taking pictures

A few possible causes:

1) You have a slow memory card. Borrow from someone one of newer fast SD cards and test it in your camera. Take your card to a store that sells cameras, and try shooting with their cameras to see if you get the same delay.

2) Slow camera. The only solution here is to update. Many camera review sites give timing how long it takes a camera to write an image to a card.

3) Camera settings. If you are shooting in low-light situation, camera takes longer shots. There should be a warning icon about this. Easy way to deal with this is to use a tripod, to put camera on something solid. Check for "Slow Synch" setting - set it to Off if you don't know what it is.

LCD is black

you can see images clearly? but no Menu items show is that what you mean? This would indicate a firmware malfunction. If you see nothing at all on the screen but only 'ghost' images then the back light has blown. Try first of all with the camera on tapping gently at the base of the casing in the region of the screen- this is where the connectors to the main board are. Contact The Minolta support team. If you are getting nowhere - I suggest the next camera - repairs are not usually an economic option if at all.
