Question about Recoton Advent Advent Q2035A 20" TV

1 Answer

I have an Advent 27 in HD TV model # HT2751A. When I turn it on I hear the usual sounds when it would begin to display the picture. After hearing the usual sounds I hear a click and no picture or sound. Is my Advent TV dead?

No, it isn't a total loss, This is typical of a classic switchmode power supply, shutting down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both. This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, This set should be removed from the Power, and in my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an , Approved Service Center, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their local, "Head Office" Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement. The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand.
But also i would wonder if it would be economic to repair given the age and type and money spent possibly repair could go towards a new unit with a warranty too.

I left the TV on while I was on line asking for help and when I turned the power off and back on the TV came on fine. I think the sleep button may have been mistakenly pushed.

    Thanks for you help!

I have a 27" RCA TruFlat TV. Recently the picture

Something has definitely gone wrong. When picture fails, generally the audio will still play; but since the set is shutting down completely after a short time - it is going to more involved.

Firstly, anything can be fixed. The questions to ask are: 1) At what point do you stop spending money to repair a device that is XX years old? 2) How much would a replacement / upgrade cost?

Given that your set is an older SD (standard definition) with an old analog NTSC legacy tuner, it may be worth while to make the move to a digital HDTV. The picture quality will "blow away" any SD version of the same image / program that your old TV displayed. Unlike several years ago, the HDTV has come way down in price, too. A 32 inch, wide screen HDTV price starts at just $235 as results shown by a search in Google. In order to view HD signals, you'll need either 1) a plain UHF/VHF antenna (and local broadcasters in range), 2) HD cable TV service or, 3) HD satellite service. Cable and satellite providers offer SD service and for slightly more, HD service. Most people are not happy watching SD signals on an HD display - so you'll probably want to change the level of service if you're not using an antenna. Old DVD players only send SD signals, you might consider upgrading to a Blu-Ray player. Blu-Ray players provide SD and HD signals - depending on whether you insert an SD DVD or an HD Blu-Ray disk. The Blu-Ray players, like the HDTVs, have also dropped in price significantly.

See if you can find a place that provides free estimates. If not able to locate, find someone that will apply the cost of diagnostics (ask what the diagnostic fee is) to the total repair charge, and decide to either fix or replace.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please take a moment to rate my reply - thank you.

Is this TV digital ready

According to http://www.dtv.gov/consumercorner.html#faq9

How can I be sure that I am buying a digital TV (DTV)?
By law, beginning March 1, 2007, all television reception devices (including TVs, VCRs, DVRs, etc.) imported into the U.S. or shipped in interstate commerce must contain a digital tuner. Retailers may continue to sell analog-only devices from existing inventory, but must prominently display on or near the analog-only device a Consumer Alert label with this advisory:

What is the difference between “Integrated” DTVs and DTV or HDTV “Monitors”?
An Integrated DTV set is a television with a built-in digital tuner (also referred to as “a DTV”). A digital tuner is also sometimes called a DTV decoder or DTV receiver. If you have an Integrated DTV, you will not need any additional equipment, with the exception of a broadcast antenna (either a rooftop antenna or “rabbit ears” connected to the set), to receive over-the-air digital broadcast programming. Integrated DTVs can also receive and display analog broadcast programming, so you can continue watching analog broadcasts.
In contrast, a DTV Monitor is not capable of receiving digital broadcast programming without additional equipment; it is simply a display device without the processing capability for DTV reception. A digital or HD set-top box must be connected between the antenna and the monitor to receive and display over-the-air digital or HD programming.
If you have a digital or HD “Monitor” and would like to purchase a digital or HD set-top box to view over-the-air programming, confirm with your retailer that the set-top box is compatible with your Monitor.

Hi, although I have all sony tvs in my house, every room brand new, when there broke there like a opened bottle of wine ,FLAT, no good!! A 27 is so cheap its worth buying a new one. UNLESS you live where you have friends that fix them on the side. I do and if you ever get to seethe inside of the tv you will wonder what your paying for there is only a few parts in them now and my friend chks them with a machine in 10 minutes if it is worth fixing he has the parts on the shelf and it must be under 100 or its going in the barrel. I have had 1 fixed 10 minutes still good other 1 he threw it out. That's all I can do for you from here, sorry, good luck, Frankie

if you have a SD TV. ( standard display, not HD ) but chose the HD display option on system settings you wont see picture but hear sound. and same goes if you've chosen SD display but own a HD TV. so try to reset your system somehow or take it in for inspection.
