Question about Bissell 3920 Bagless Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

I have a Bissell pet hair eraser model #3920. It's been working great until last night. I went to use it and the brush won't spin. It also smells like it's burning. I checked the belt and it looks fine, and the brush spins by hand easily. It's not clogged anywhere that I can see. Anyone have any other ideas? This vacuum is only 8 months old.

- Remove the access panel, which is on the bottom of the machine. There are 4 tabs to lift on the access panel to remove. Start with tab 1 then 2-4 tabs.
- Check the brush, and belt for any damage. Clean off any debris on the brush.
-The belt may not be broken but may show signs of wear. If belt is broken or shows signs of wear, replace belt.

Turbo pet brush not working

I just had the same problem. It would rotate, but barely. I ended up taking the whole thing apart, following some of the suggestions other people posted, to clean out any hair. The big fix was taking apart and spraying some WD-40 on the brush axle. It doesn't look like it comes apart, but if you secure it down and use a nail and a hammer to gently tap in the little hole on the end where the belt grooves are, it will pop right apart. I only lightly sprayed the WD-40, as the last thing I need is clumps of greasy hair in the thing.

My pet hair eraser smells like it is burning all the time and sounds funny. The brush will not spin once you have it on the carpet unless you hold it up a little while you are cleaning but then the whole...

We had the same problem, and it turned out that the roller wheel height setting had broken, for no apparent reason, and was "floppy" so we had to lock it in to one setting with epoxy.

Limits utility, but it works. Sort of.

Last time I used my Bissell Pet Hair Remover vacuum it smelled like something was burning and it left a black mark on the carpet. What should I do?

When you smell burning like that it usually indicates that the belt is worn and slipping on the motor shaft. You probably need to change the belt. You can get the belts for your model here:

Brush will not spin any longer

If the brush won't spin at all, it's either the drive belt or the roller beater brush is clogged. Pet hair can quickly clog a vacuum. Turn the unit over and see if the brush will rotate by hand. If yes, it's probably the belt. Also look for debris and clear as much out as possible. You may have to remove the bottom plate and clean the bottom of the unit out. If you do have to go that far, it would be best to replace the drive belt and thoroughly clean the vacuum.
