The movies that u are burning are being copied to your computer, even in a compressed format that will take up space. Are u loosing h/d space. Are u using a copy program that uses the h/d as a temperary storage?

My sony DVD-ROM DDU 1615 does not play DVD video or record my videos onto dvds.

If you want to just PLAY DVD movies with your current setup, then try downloading and installing a free program called VLC MEDIA PLAYER from WWW.CNET.COM which will let you play DVDs on your computer.

Here is the direct link to their download page where you can read about the software, check out other user's reviews, and download it free if you want:

http://download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html?tag=main;productListing

I use this free progarm on my computer and it works great.

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated.

Then just click on the DOWNLOAD NOW (19.42 MB) button that you see on the left hand side of the page.

Then follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the program. Be sure to click on the yellow security bar at top of the page if necessary to ALLOW DOWNLOAD.
However, if you want to actually BURN videos onto recordable DVDs, then you are going to have to go out and buy a bit of new hardware.

The ROM part in DVD ROM stands for READ ONLY MEMORY. That means your disk drive can only READ DVD disks, it is unable to BURN (record) onto disks. For that you will have to go out and buy a DVD RW disk drive. They look exactly the same as yours, but are a few bucks more, and they have the extra capability of burning files onto blank recordable DVD disks (DVD-Rs).

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much, good luck, and take care.

Joe.

If the DVD is unreadable by several devices then the DVD disk was burned wrong and is nothing more than you can do.
Assure that you have a region set on your DVD players and a certified DVD playback software on PC. Windows Media Player 10 should be enough if the disk is still unreadable will remain unreadable and ony speciall software with raw access will read it but this is not a solution for you.
I use Nero 7 for burning CDs and DVDs and never had a problem. Maybe when you burned the DVD you set a wrong regional code or you choosed a wrong DVD format that is unknown to your DVD players.

How do i burn a movie thats on my external hard drive to my mad dog burner

your gonna need conversion software to convert your movie files wether from avi to dvd files mpg to dvd and so forthn once converted you will burn those dvd files to an dvd cd using an software like Nero and so forth.
1. get WinAVI wich can convert any video files to dvd files. 2. get ImgBurn = free, then burn movie files to cd. make sure though before burning that in WinAVI that you go through advance settings and set the TV system to NTSC for US, if set to PAL it won't play in your dvd player, cause thats european version. if need more detial info let me know

Well, if your talking abou pirated dvd's, check your software. But I hope you know that dvd players now in days are coming with some kind of pirated dvd protection. Meaning, that the dvd player companies are making it harder for some of us to pirate dvd's that actually work on most dvd players. What software are you using? I'm not going to say what I use cause then I'll be an accomplice. Butmaybe that is the problem, the software is burning with a trace of itself. Or what you can do is go over a friends house and try them out. I know, cause my dvd player stops the dvd every 10 seconds. And my friends dvd player would just play it normally. It's a pain dude, all I can say is do it wright and stay legal. Or just don't get caught!!!

Anyways, hope this helps.

Maybe it's your dvd player that won't read the disks cause they are not original or propper format. Just to make that clear.

Burning Mp4 files to DVD

Hi Peter ,
You are confusing the amount of recording time stated (200 mins) with the disk blurb (I like that word blurb...lol.. ) with the actual amount of data you are trying to burn to the DVD !
If your MP4 movie is super high quality or high definition and is 4.7 Gigabytes and 20 minutes long , your DVD-R will only store that amount of data and no more.
The capacity of most DVD-R's is about 4.7 Gigabytes or 120 minutes ?  it might say it can store 200 minutes , but this is only a guide and depends entirely on what quality the movie is and what compression technique was used to produce the mp4.
If this isnt the case and you are sure its no more than 4.7GB and your still having trouble burning over 20 minutes of video, the drive could be faulty or the software your using to burn the DVD -R isnt set up correctly , you need a very big hard drive to burn DVD's (I suggest at least 160 GB ) and as much RAM memory as you can afford to put in your computer.
You need this to cache (or temporarily store) the movie  file and the software has to be set up properly to use a large cache. Not all DVD-R's do what they say on the case , most say they burn at 16X but ive yet to find a DVD-R that will burn every time and do a good job of it at 16X,I have to lower the burn speed to 8X or lower to get good consistent results...some cheap brands will burn in some drives and not others and buying really cheap DVD -R's  is false economy you end up with lots of cheap drinks coasters...or other drives will not read the data you have recorded..
hope this has helped you Peter ..
