Yes there is a fuse in the dryer. The black circular thing is a high limit thermostat. Beneath it is the thermal fuse. It is smaller (dime size) and is mounted to the right side of the heating element housing. It is alittle tough to see and get at. You must use the original Maytag part kit.It comes with a new high limit therm. and fuse.

Check and make sure the seal at the bottom of the washer is not wore out. Alot of times you will get grease from the bearins and drum assembly if this wears out.

You have a belt driven pump on this machine.
Maytag redesigned the lid switch for this machine because of this problem.
Try a new lid switch first.
It is possible that the problem could originate from the timer. Which would mean a new timer.
I believe the lid switch will correct your problem.
