Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a samsung HLP4663W DLP tv. There was a loud whirring noise inside the set. The light was still working and the fan also. I turned it off for a few minutes and turned it back on and it did the same thing. The set is 3 years old. I replaced the lamp about 3 months ago. Help!

hi, I have the same issue with my Samsung DLP HL-R5066W purchased in 2006. We just replaced the lamps successfully 2 years ago no problem. In the last 2 months it started doing this loud buzzing sound when I first turn on the tvIt was working fine untill 2 months ago when it started doing the loud buzzing noise when you turn it on. I usually have to either unplug or turn off the tv several time and then eventually the buzzing stops. When the tv is on afterwards it doesn't make the noise while on but as soon as you turn the tv set off, the next time you turn it on it starts again and we have to go to unplug or turn it off scenario several time again.. Can you post the link on how to get a replacement and installation instructions please. thank you LPaolozzi

How do I fix loud humming noise in my DLP HLP4663W 42 IN Samsung TV?

I would start by checking all the cooling fans to see if one is dirty or possibly failing.

Samsung DLP HL-R4266W..no sound or picture. TV is completely dead

Assuming the noise is a high-pitched whine, then yes, it is the color wheel.  If the color wheel goes out, the TV will turn on for a while, then turn off when it can't establish color wheel sync.  The color wheel has to be in sync with the mirrors on the DLP, so if sync can't be established, the TV turns off.
You can order a new color wheel from Sears or partstore.com (among other places) and replace it yourself, if you are so inclined.

Loud noise when Tv comes on souns like fan.

The loud noise is the color wheel winding down when you turn the TV off. You need to replace the color wheel.

Color wheel or fan?

Sounds like the color wheel has shatterd, thats a fairly common problem with that model.

Big Screen gets loud, mad and turns off

without a model number, i can't be much help. if this is a newer dlp or similar tv, the fan is probably going out. some newer tv's have a fan that is part of the light assembly, some have a separate fan.. the loud whirring noise is usually caused by bad bearings or the blades of the fan may have become unbalanced, either way, the fan making the noise will need replacing. the color going is usually caused by the lcd or dlp overheating and/or the lamp overheating.

if the tv is out of warranty, remove the back panel, locate the fan making the noise, and search for a replacement. if you have a model number, i can check around and see if i can find the part number for you.

hope this helps,
trin
