How do I reduce the freezer temperature

Locate the the thermostat - usually located in the fresh food compartment (if a refrigerator). Make small adjustments of about 1/8 of the dial's travel at a time - and check the change after 24 hours. Be sure to check both the freezer AND fresh food compartment to prevent temperature from dropping to low for fresh food. Best results are obtained by using a thermometer put in a glass of water in the fresh food area and another thermometer left in the freezer. Most manufacturers suggest a freezer temperature not greater than 0°F and fresh food 35°F to 40°F. If you need specific help with this - please include the make AND complete model number of your freezer.

Frigidaire plhs267za is to cold and frezzing the food. what do I check

Good Morning friend, thanks for your post!

From what you have described your Frigidaire refrigerator is too cold and freezing food. I would recommend you check the temperature to make sure it is set to a factory setting of 0 for the freezer and 37 for the fresh food side. You can also check to make sure that there is not food in the freezer blocking the damper from closing. The damper is located near the top of your refrigerator.

Place you hand in the rear of your fresh food compartment to feel if the air is too cold or the damper periodically closes. This could be the cause of your refrigerator freezing your food. If you damper is not working properly you may need to replace it. If your damper appears to be in working order your thermostat or control panel could be the issue. I would suggest having a professional out to perform a diagnosis. If you do not have a professional contact you should visit your manufacturer's website to locate a technician in your area. Good luck. -Matt

Fresh food side isnt staying cold. Freezer is staying cold though but the ice is sweaty a little. Model RC244AD

Hi I'm Peter, The fresh food side will have a different thermostat it is likely that the thermostat or the thermocoupling has gone bad. The thermocoupling will be a tube shaped device mounted on the coils possibly underneath since it's for the cool side fridge see if it is operating by blowing on it with a hair dryer that may activate it. I would check the thermostat first though. . OH WOW CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T MENTION THIS FIRST Make sure and check the door gasket that it is not leaking a temp gun could be used for that as it would register cooler where there was a leak. Is the compressor running all the time or is it cycling? It seems it would be ok if the freezer is operating properly so it all leads back to the thermostat. Most appliance parts stores will have these in stock just take the make, model, and serial number and they may have some more suggestions as they would most lkely know what parts on a particular make goes out the most.

Refrigerator freezes everything

Depending on who made your Kenmore will help determine what the problem is most likely. Many times the thermostat can be the blame but with different brands some making auto dampers that have their own thermostat to regulate fresh food temperatures by controlling the amount of cold air coming from the freezer to fresh food section. Some models have an auto damper while others have an electric controlled damper that is controlled by an additional electronic sensor. The first three numbers of your model number found most times around the fresh food compartment door is where to find your model number, number should look like this example 321.2134567 Click Here=> Kenmore Who Made it for Them? Get the full number and I will be glad to help you, Thanks Sea Breeze

Set the temperature control on freezer at 0'F and Fresh food at 37'F but stay at 20 'F on Freezer and 52 'F on Fresh food ?

Check gas pressure. If short of gas, leak test and rectify. And also check thermostat is working properly. If defrost heater activation for long time, check the connection. Call repairman to check all above. Thanks.

I have a GE model ZFSB26DNASS serial #VD419341 that I purchased in 2003. The fresh food side stays at 29 degrees no mater what I set it to and the water line in the bottom is frozen. I unpluged it and...

Your fresh food thermisters(electronic thermostats) have failed allowing the temperature thermostat to run continuously.
The thermisters need replacing.

Wont let cold air blow into the refridgetor side

If it isn't due to the fridge contents obstructing the cold air outlet in the fresh food compartment, it's probably an issue with the thermostat in the fresh food compartment or the fan(s) in the freezer compartment.

It may also be the first indication of a failed part in the defrost circuit. If the freezer compartment begins to warm over the next day or so, there may be an issue with the defrost timer, defrost terminator, or heater. Before digging around there tho, make sure the cold air openings in the fresh food compartment are not blocked.

If the fan(s) in the freezer have failed, they won't be able to blow the cold air into the fresh food area. If the thermostat failed, it will never be able to send power to the fan to cool the fresh food compartment.

Depending on your capabilities, this may or may not be a good DIY type job. Sometimes, a warm fridge / freezer is due to a refrigerant leak, and will require a licensed refrigerant tech to make repairs. Working in the tight confines of a fridge can be difficult - especially when testing components with power on.

I hope this helps - good luck!

My compressor runs but I think it shuts off and stays off too long...the box gets to warm and the ice starts to melt before it starts again

First of all, before you do anything, clean the coils under the refrigerator. I couldn't tell you how many refrigerators I've 'fixed' that needed nothing more than the coils cleaned. Dirty coils can cause a multitude of problems, many of them with the exact same symptoms that would be expected when refrigerant components fail. Dirt is the #1 enemy of any refrigeration unit.

If that doesn't help, since both sides of the refrigerator get warm before the compressor kicks back on, I'd suspect the fresh food temperature control thermostat. Not an easy fix for the average homeowner unless you've got specific skills in appliance repair.

Before you do anything, try this. Turn the fresh food thermostat all the way up, the set the freezer setting at a higher than normal setting. The way the system works is that the fresh food thermometer turns the compressor on and off and the freezer control simply controls how much of the cold air from the freezer is diverted to the fresh food compartment.

If you turn the fresh food thermostat higher, the compressor will run longer and adjusting the freezer control to a higher setting will allow less cold air into the fresh food compartment, forcing the compressor to run longer in order to cool it to the thermostat setting.

If the settings have to be abnormally high, this is a workaround, rather than a fix. To get a permanent fix, you'll probably have to replace the fresh food control thermostat.

I hope this was helpful to you or to anyone reading it.

Fresh food side warm. Freezer works fine.

I think you are short of refrigerant, needs to be topped up and checked for leaks.

GE TPX24BPBGBB fresh food section won't cool

Have you noticed any ice built up on the rear freezer wall? it is very likely that you have a defrost problem situation,IE: Heater,Defrost Thermostat,Defrost Timer any failure in these components will cause an icing problem and therefore you will not get sufficient air flow to the Food Compartment
