Question about Dometic 57915531 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a Dometic 57915.531 air conditioner in my camper. When the compressor goes on the lights go dim. Then if left on it will trip the circuit breaker. When I reset the breaker and turn the AC back on and play with the thermostat it turns the compressor on and off. Sometimes it will go on and blow cold air and sometimes it will try to start and the lights go dim and if left on will blow the breaker again. I can turn the thermostat from high to low and sometimes it will kick on normally and other times it won't. If I have it on just the fan setting there is no problem. I am desperate t solve this as I must travel extensively over the next two weeks and it is unbearably hot here and I travel with my family. Is anyone able to help? .

Hi,
The compressor is not always starting...sometimes it tries but does not start...
It could be a capacitor and relay problem... or the compressor could be going bad...
Change the capacitor and start relay first and then see if that gets it going...

Aircon tripps circuit breaker

Usually a short in the system or its drawing to much power for the breaker to handle. most common cause is a bad capacitor, Locked up compressor or compressor has gone to ground.

What causes caravan aircon to trip circuit breaker on start up

My first guess would be that the compressor has seized. If not the compressor seizing, then I would look for a short to ground in the wiring. If you pull the cover of the AC you will most likely find that the compressor motor is plugged into a receptacle. If you can unplug or otherwise disconnect the compressor motor from its' power source and activate the thermostat to run and the circuit breaker does not trip, it is the compressor motor. If the circuit breaker trips, then it's in the wiring.

My duo therm 13.5 btu rv air conditioner started making a popping sound and dimming the lights like it's trying to cycle to shut off. Well then it started triping the circuit breaker so I changed out the 2...

The best guess is that you have a bad thermostat. When the compressor shuts off it has to stay off for a long enough period of time for the low pressure high pressure to equalize. If it turns the compressor off and back on immediately it can't start against the heavy load created by these unequal pressures. If it will start every time after sitting for 10 minutes the thermostat is making it short cycle.

I have a Quick Cool (59516.501) which just started tripping the 20 A circuit breaker. I replaced the circuit breaker. Unit still trips the circuit breaker.

you will need to access the unit and look for burnt/shorted wires on/at compressor. if not then the compressor is locked down/shorted and will need replaced Tim

I have a dometics air system in a 2006 fema camper the air works but when it cuts in the silver box in the ceiling off it will not restart it just makes a clicking noise

Sounds like the circuit breaker for 120V side of AC is tripping due to high amperage draw, which could be caused by weak breaker, faulty compressor, faulty start capacitor, or even improper wiring to list a few things. You should have it checked by a qualified RV tech or AC tech to determine which is the cause.

Turn my roof top ac on , fan runs but when compressor tries to run lights in camper dims 3 to 5 sec. don;t kick breaker off, any ideas?

You need to get a reading on the current draw of the compressor. Use a clamp on ampmeter to do this. Compare your reading with the data plate on the compressor. Your compressor may be getting ready to go out. You can also check the capacitor. If may be getting weak and need replacing. Another idea may be to install a hard start capacitor if the compressor is OK.

Compressor runs for only a moment the circuit breaker trips

Lights dim, moaning from AC, just before it trips breaker? Have you checked incoming voltage? What type of plug are you hooked up to, 30, or 50 amp?

The Dometic ac.heat pump is not providing cold air. What are the possible causes and fixes? It is about 6 years old.

Could be possible, but normally when a capacitor goes, the compressor will try to kick in momentarily, then back out and when it does, it will draw a lot of current, and likely trip the breaker, or at least draw current down, and make lights in trailer dim momentarily as well. Can you hear a "click" (relay makes that sound) when you go from fan only, to cool on that AC unit ? It almost sounds like a faulty relay, if no current draw when switched to cool. I don't suppose you have a multimeter of any kind?

Just bought a used 1987 Real-Lite truck camper. The roof air unit is Dometic as well as the LP/AC refrigerator. When turned to "cool" the air conditioner really draws down, dims the lights, and eventually...

To start with, if it's plugged in to a 15 amp breaker, and extension cord, the compressor starting up may just be enough to trip the breaker. It will draw close to 15 amps on start-up of compressor, and if there is a light extension cord used to plug it in, that only makes it worse. Make sure you shut all other breakers off in panel except AC, and try it. If you have water heater on hydro, fridge on hydro, and then try to start AC compressor, you'll be way over the 15 amps, especially if it's a light extension cord.
Keep in mind, in order for fridge to work, you need 12 volts DC (Battery) power going to back of fridge. If the controls aren't lighting up at top, you've most likely got no 12 Volt DC power going to fridge. Check all fuses as well.
