My daughter set the router up and then moved out with the setup disc and she doesn't remember the pass code. My signal is not secure and my neighbors all use it. How can I make it secure? It always wants the pass code.

Now if you connect a device through the wireless you will be prompted to enter the pass-phrase. You will be asked for it after every power down of router or reboot of router. If you reset the configuration by pressing the reset button on the router you must redo everything again.
Remember: You will erase everything every time you reset the router. So if you make mistakes, just reset it with a straightened paper clip.
Remember, any body who has physical access to the router can reset. If tech savvy, he/she can give him/her/self access.

Every time i secure the router the wpa/wep isnt compatible with my daughters laptop.....not too sure what do

Does your daughter have a very old laptop? Some older wireless cards do not support wpa/wep. You can still get her a USB wireless adapter and use that to connect to the router.

We keep losing connection to internet when playing xbox 360 live. will be playing and screen freezes up for 15 to30 seconds then kicks us from xbox live.have a router with 3 xboxs hooked up.its unsecured...

If it's unsecured, there is a possibility that other people nearby are logging on to your internet connection through your open router. The more connections through the router, the slower it becomes. And the Xbox will drop is the connection becomes too slow.

As for a better answer as to why your losing your connection, try relocating the router. Often moving it higher up will allow a better signal. Other times a wall or shelf which contain metal objects is the cause. The signal weakens as it passes through construction materials, and nearby metal objects will definitely cause signal degradation. Try moving the router, sometimes only a foot or two is sufficient.

You should definitely learn the process to secure your router. It's like connecting your computer with a network cable to all of your neighbors computers and inviting them to see what you have stored on your machine. If their computer savvy, they can even watch what your doing in real time and even activate your camera and microphone! (It's been known to happen).

Securing the router involves the use of a network key (think of this as a password). Most modern routers have the default password printed on the body of the router. Using a special program installed when you installed the router, you can access the router and set the password. For example I use a Netgear router and the program that it installs is called "Netgear Genie". You access the router through the program using the routers user name and password (default as shipped is usually "admin" for both. Then set up the router to use security. After this all of your devices you authorize to connect to this router will also need to use the same Network Key (password). It's actually an easy process. For example, after you set the security, the labtop will attempt to connect and finding the system secured, ask you to enter the "network key" or password, to allow it to connect. It should ask you to remember this password so it can connect without assistance in the future

If your still uncertain, try running the router's setup program again. Most are designed to walk you through the process quickly. Just remember that all your devices will need to use the same password, the one that is printed on the side or bottom of the router. Usually it's something silly like "wonderfulwater456879" or whatever. Good luck and be more careful with your data in the future.

My neighor stealing my signal

You need to encrypt your wireless signal. Here are some instructions for getting in to your router's control panel.

Once you manage to log in, find the firewall region or wireless security region. Make sure to encrypt your wireless connection with the WPA-PSK authentication method using the TKIP encryption. Make sure to write down your pass-phrase, as you will need it to connect to your wireless connection.

Wireless router

1. Log into the router with your browser by entering 192,168.0.1 into the URL bar near the top of the screen.
2. Type admin in the user field
3. Type motorola into the password field.

This will get you into the router setup.

Go to the wireless tab and setup WEP encryption. Write down everything you do, because you'll need ti later if you don't remember it.

Once setup, you'll need to setup any wireless computers that you want to hook to the router.

Here's a link to the router manual. If you go through it page by page, starting at page 22, then you should be OK. Key things to setup are WEP encryption. A lot of the other stuff, you don't have to worry with. And, you can change the login user name and password, which is highly recommended.

Router problem

Hi there,

Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router. DO NOT use a wireless connection, use a cable.

Open your web browser and type the IP address of the router (by default, the address is in the address bar and press Enter.

Click Login on the top of the page to login to the router. By default the Password is left blank, click Submit.
Click Security under Wireless menu.
Under Security, Select 64 bit WEP (or 128 bit WEP).
Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength). You may also enter a pass phrase and have the router generate a key for you. Example (0102030405060708090a0b0c)
Apply the settings.
Please write down the key – You will need it later to configure your and your neighbors wireless computers with the same key.
Remember to set an admin password before you close down, other vice anyone can access you router and change the setup and admin password.

Wireless router pass word

You have to reset your router. There is a small reset button on the back, which you have to hold in for at least 15 to 20 seconds if I remember correctly.

You should be able to then log back into it with the factory preset it came with.

Please let me know if this helps. Good luck!
