Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

Open Question

What does the flashing microwave icon in the lower right of the display mean? The oven will not start but everything else seems to work(like the timer, etc). This is the second time this has happened and after sitting a couple of hours last time it started working. I can't find anything in the manuel that shows the blinking display icons. Thank you

Sounds like the problem is in the high voltage. Most common would be magnatron, capacitor and diode. For safety reasons this should be checked by a professional. Look in your owners manual because some high voltage parts have a longer warranty than 1 yr.

Good for you for doing the cold reset. Good job!

Hopefully it was not stored in a damp or unheated area, since that can case damage that will complicate the diagnosis.

But generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose conneciton on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

Does the turntable rotate? If everything but this works (except no heat), you probably have a bad door switch. Here's a discussion of what's involved in replacing it: http://www.fixya.com/support/t267796-kenmore_microwave_hood_combination_over

If the turntable does rotate, I'd suspect a more significant failure, such as the transformer, capacitor, or magnetron. If it's any of these, it's time to replace the unit.

Our Advantium 120 oven (model # SCA1001KSS 02, Manufactured June 2008)is not working. Began w/ time not coming on when cooking and just a little green microwave light shows while cooking.

Typical of a control microchip failure caused by a power surge. With a microwave as old as yours, it is safest to simply replace the entire oven rather than attempt to fix it, as older magnetrons are likely to fail.

It displays SE and nothing works.

SE error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

With your model number I can detail your options.

What does F-82 mean?. it is flashing on the display and the Microwave is not working. Thanks

F82 means there is no power being supplied to the lower high voltage transformer. It may be due to:

- failure of relay RY-4 on the circuit board
- 10A fuse open
- controller failure

We have the service manual and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

Microwave works but does not cook (does not heat up). Everything else seems to work properly.

hello,

what this means is that there have been a disconnection on the wire of the element (heater)

what you need to do to fix up the problem is to unscrew the oven then trace the wire down to the element power point and fix it back to it position

please make sure all form of power supply is OFF when carry out this function

Good lock and thanks for using fixya.

Replaced lower light. It flashed. Now the light

With this model you should unplug it first. More than likely it is a burnt track/trace on the controller board between the relay and the header going to the light. Easy to fix if you have a soldering iron, short piece of solid wire etc. Accessible from the front, just take off the top grille and then the one screw for the control panel.
