Hi,

If you've recently dropped the camera you may have lens damage that is causing the camera to shut down. If you haven't dropped it, your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try solution before you do anything else:

Step1: Remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper).

Step2: Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced.

Step3: Remove the lens from the camera. Put the body cap on the camera, and put the rear lens cap on the back of the lens. Make sure you are in a clean environment.

Step 4: Take the rear cap off the lens and use the blower to blow large pieces of dust off the lens. Go around the entire rear part of the lens with the blower.

Step 5: Dip the swab in the isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution. You should use only a light amount; the best way to ensure this is to wear light vinyl gloves, like those used by health care providers, and squeeze the swab with your fingers after dipping it in the solution. Gently clean the contacts on the lens with the swab. After you have done so, use the blower on the lens contacts again.

Step 6: Repeat the procedure on the contacts on the camera body.

Step 7: Reattach the lens to the camera and test it to see if the error or focusing problems still exist. If they do, try cleaning the contacts again.

Thank you !!

I have a SONY Cybershot DSC W150. When I turn it on the lens goes kut and comes back in several times, then I get the error message "Turn the Power Off and On Again", but doing that does not change...

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

Sony camera wont take pictures

It is problem of lens mechanism that does not send initialize signal to system control chip and camera tries 3 times for that then give up so that error message comes in result.
Replace lens assembly to fix the problem.
Local camera repair shop will help you to replace it.
Thanks.

I have a Sony Cybershot W150. I have already had

Ok David, be persistant with this seemingly kludge of a fix.
Use a can of compressed air and blow around the lens while it is extended. Take a relatively firm approach with this problem slap the camera into your palm two or three times.
Not lens down in this case, but using the side or rear of the camera to make contact with your palm
Make sure you have the camera cord around your wrist so as not to lose it across the room.

Do this several times and turn it on and off till the message of turn on and off no longer shows(if it ever did) and the lens retracts and works correctly. The compressed air will help remove any accumulated dust that is jamming the lens.
This is a sony tech fix and not a joke, they charge you $90-120 to do this and this fault is not uncommon in many of these small cameras
dust and dirt get taken into the lens bay and eventually cause it to stick. Hence the use of compressed air with the brutal approach

I have fixed around 200 of these over the last 2 years using this method. only 3 failed to respond

Please rate my help++++Thyanks for using FIXYA

Sony Cybershot DSC-W150,screen reads turn power on and off again

You may not believe this and I hope you haven't spent a lot of money fixing your problem. I read that some people had a different error message coming up on their Sony Cybershot DSC-W150's and in order to fix it, they literally banged the lens against their knee while the lens was out and it re-focused and the error message disappeared. I tried this while my camera was doing exactly what you described above AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 2 or 3 firm blows, my LCD screen came up and focused. I can't believe it myself, but I was just desperate enough to try it and VOILA!
Good luck!!
