Hi. this is a common issue for Vista computers that downloaded microsoft updates. Please refer troubleshooting below to resolved this issue.

1. Boot from Vista DVD (e.g. ensure BIOS is set toboot from CD/DVD). Note: before the reboot from DVD, they requestedthat I disconnect attached peripherals: the printer and the wirelesskb/mouse. Plugged in wired kb/mouse.

2. Select Repair link from the main menu

3. Select to restore to a previous time

4. Restore to a point prior to the offending update

5. Restart normally

6. Launch windows update in vista. Check for updates. Note the important update that needs to be installed (In this case itwas a cumulative update to Vista Home Premium/Media Center edition) Note the KB# of the update.
In this case it was KB947172: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947172

7. Go back to the main windows update screen.

8. Select settings > Turn off automatic updates: Choose "Check for updates but let me decide when to download/install)

9. Locate and manually download the update based upon the KB# of the update (in this case KB947172)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947172

10. Turn off virus protection, etc. I have Microsoft Live OneCare. I disabled virus/spyware.

11. Manually install the downloaded update.

12. The update required a reboot. The now familiary"Step 3 of 3" screen came up, completed and then loaded the loginscreen normally (without the never-ending reboot issue)

13. After desktop loaded normally,
-- Checked Windows update for any important updates (none)
--Enabled automatic updates
--Re-enabled security software (e.g. virus/spyware)

All the best!

I currently have a toshiba l500 and the screen has shrunk only on the right hand side about an inch and has streched vertically past the viewing area. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. Thanks

Open Device Manager, Display adapter, Uninstall Graphics adapter, and drivers if asked. Reboot the Toshiba, allow the software to install the generic driver, Run windows and toshiba updates, Update graphics adapter. post results.

My l500 1xd toshiba keeps shutting down

First guess. Overheating. You can check the Event Viewer for actual cause. Though the explanations can be very technical.

A simple procedure would be to blow out the vents / fan with canned air. It really makes a difference.

Just a thought. What about power setting? Disable Hibernation and or sleep. Are you referring to this?

My screen on toshiba satellite l500 went white. I connect it to the tv and it works. Tried re install drivers, made the updates, took out the battery, and nothing worked. Ideas? Urgently? Thanks.

The data connection cable between the lcd screen and the motherboard of the laptop is damaged - the laptop will have to be completely dismantled to have it replaced.
It's a big job, take your laptop to a repair shop.

The philippine price 0f toshiba satellite L500.

Price depends on the specific "specie" of the model and what model is available in the Philippines, for instance a Toshiba Satellite Pro L500 EZ1530 is USD 829.60 in Amazon, another model Satellite Pro L500 T5870 is USD 899.95 in Shopbot.com.au. Comparing the prices of laptops abroad and in the Philippines, we usually see +20% to +30% to its peso equivalent, this Toshiba laptop may range from Php 40k to Php 50k. You may need to visit nearby computer shops to know the exact price (sometimes they give promos and special -on-the-day- discounts), but usually still more expensive than the peso equivalent from the prevailing international price. In any case you may try Octagon or Toshiba (in Megamall).

Toshiba L500 - the @ and " are reversed

Hello,

its normal, its not all keyboard that has there "@" on number 2. Even the latest HP laptops that are produced these days have their @ on the same position like yours. You will find @ at the right side of the key board, near later "L".

Its normal, there is nothing to worry about because its not a fault. Just try to get use with the new changes.

Take care.

I was given an L500. It powers but fails to POST, this happened after a recommended BIOS update. Any kind of debug ports or something to sort this out?

After a BIOS update, if it fails to post, the BIOS update got corrupted. This happens (rarely) and when it does, the only thing that can be done is to remove the BIOS chip and have it burned at a local repair shop (or sent into Toshiba for a replacement). Without the BIOS functioning properly, the computer can do nothing at all. If your BIOS is not on a removable chip, then the computer will have to be sent to Toshiba to have the BIOS replaced.
