My 60gb ps3 will display everything when powered up , i can scroll through the menus , do a firmware update and download demos to play, but once the demos are done i can see the preview of the game that i downloaded but when i try to play them the screen just goes black and the game never starts ,the samething happens when trying to access folding@home screen just flickers and goes black.
Well it could be the resolution of your tv if your or a damage cable that is causing the problem what you can do is to hook up the ps3 to you tv with the regular cables A/V components(red, white and yellow) and try to play a game or demo, if you could see the picture then is the cable or the display settings. you can also try to check different display settings. for example if you use 1080p change it to 720p and try it to see if it works. also try changing the input to a different input on your tv if you're using HDMI 1 change it to HDMI2. and viseversa
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Turn on your PS3. Under the "Network" Icon, scroll down to "Life With Playstation" icon and click on it. Once "Life With Playstaion" loads, press and hold the Square Button and scroll down to "Folding@Home." This should begin the "Folding@Home" process. By pressing and holding the Triangle Button you can enable more options.
is it the 60 gb model?? that is the only one that did backwards compatibility. all others dont. if u do have the old 60gb then maybe sony got rid of it on the firmware updates. go on the ps3 website and update an older firmware and see if that works.
it may be bad sector on HD or bad firmware update... first thing I would do is try to rollback firmware or reupdate firmware... Then take a look at the HD.... you may also try resetting it back to start on settings menu however you will lose everything saved.
your laser had stopped reading games and most likelybluray movies also sometimes they still read regular dvd's and music cd's sometimes non of then but I can guaranty is your laser you need to know what model you have because there is 2 different types of lasers for ps3 and you can install the laser your self or have someone do it for you we are a ps3 specialist we carry all major ps3 parts and accessories but if you can find somebody locally is better for you
I had that problem, this worked for me: first switch the system off and on at the back( so the red light is on) hold down the power switch at the front until you hear two beeps. It will reset the ps3 and bring up some display and sound menus, just follow the instructions and it should work. I hope this works for you! P.S This will NOT wipe the harddrive
this is what i've found "I successfully updated my legitimately-purchased "demo" PS3 via
Ethernet to demonstration firmware 2.10 after entering the password
"5202". However, please note that this is STILL demonstration firmware
and must be unlocked at EVERY power-on. (Oddly, the password changed to
2464 after the update.)
Even then, many features, including the PlayStation Store and
folding@home, are blocked!! After exhaustive research and effort,
including replacing and rezeroing the hard drive (no effect),
attempting to update via CF and Memory Stick ("No Valid Update info
found"), and physical examination of the logic board itself for a reset
button or removable jumper (no such luck), I concluded that there is no
practical way to do it. The Samsung NAND flash firmware chip is
soldered, not socketed, so essentially not replaceable without
extremely delicate work (assuming one could find a replacement chip
anyway!)." You cant really do anything at this point. return it to the store and get a refund.
and the ps3 will be unlocked from demo mode. but be aware that this will only be for a couple of minutes. so make sure you have the latest firmware the not demo one but the ordinary from the playstation site on a removable storage media something like a memory stick or flash drive
so you can update immediately after unlocking you ps3! only this way you can completely unlock your system!!
