Question about Sharp Twin Energy EC-12TWT4 Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

The last time the vacuum cleaner was used the outlet sparked causing it to smoke when turning on vacuum cleaner. I replaced the outlet and plugged it in and things seemed o.k. Today I turned on the vacuum, it stayed on for a mili second and went off. I checked the switch on the vacuum and it showed voltage coming and going, but would not turn on again. I checked all the wires in the area of the switch all seemed o.k. I thought maybe there might be a short in the cord. When I went to plug it in, the vacuum turned on,but it burned out the outlet, again. Do you think there might be a short betgween the switch and motor? If so, how do I get to the motor? Thanks. Rob

There is a short in the vacuum and it appears to be intermittent.

SOURCE: stopped working

Well it could be the motor, if it is it would cost around $80 or so for a motor. May be better to buy new, thre are a number of good brands out there.

SOURCE: smells like the motor is burning. observing

If you're observing sparks, then yes, just get a new one. With the low prices of good vaccuums its not worth starting a fire with your vaccuum. If it just smells like the motor is burning, check the belt and make sure its rotating freely and if you have an attachment, make sure the brush on the vaccuum is not being stopped while using the attachment. However, if you are seeing sparks,,,, definately time to junk it

SOURCE: electric short

Remove the electrical cord and check the conituity for a short. If one replace the cord. If no short is found the motor is fried although the switch would have to be on when it smokes so I think you have a bad cord

It sounds like there's a problem between the power cord and the vacuum cleaner itself. Remove the power cord check the connection at the vacuum cleaner and see if something came unconnected

I want to put machine in my house but need 110 motor instead of 220. nothing wrong with motor or control box

I'm assuming that you brought a vacuum cleaner from a country that uses 220V to a country that uses 110V.

You either have to change the motor to a 110V motor, or find a way of plugging the cleaner into a 220V supply.

You could contact the manufacturer and ask them if they have a 110V replacement motor for your model. (Safety warning... it will take double the electrical current, which will cause four times the heating in the cable; this could be dangerous.)

A better solution would be to have an electrician fit a 220V outlet in your house. The pin arrangement will be different to prevent 110V deviced being plugged in to it. You'll have to cut the existing plug and replace it with the correct one for that voltage for your country. (I have used a British 'Dyson' in this way, plugged in to a tumble-dryer outlet; I use a GFI for extra safety.)

Miele Red Star, small spark at outlet, no power to vacuum

The vacuum has a standard tube internal fuse. If you are lucky that is all it is. See the site http://www.sannerud.com/house/miele.html for instructions on how to open it up.

hope that helps

Dyson07animal won't turn on

First try another outlet. The likely problem is that your Dyson power switch may need to be replaced. If the vacuum cleaner switched off whilst you were using it you may be experiencing a thermal cut-off. Call the Dyson helpline, they'll let you know what your options are to fix your vacuum cleaner.

Vacuum plugged in but not on, smoke started coming from the motor

The motor winding burned out. Perhaps the motor was very hot when the vac was turned off after the last use and the insulation of the motor windings broke down when the air stopped moving thought the unit. Perhaps also the polarity of the receptacle it was plugged into is reversed or the plug on the vacuum is not polarized. Those things in combination could cause this but this is kind of a long shot guess. In any case the blower motor is likely burned out and will need to be replaced and checked out.

Electrolux ambassdor will not run after pluggen in

Greeting from GoVacuum,

On all Electrolux canister vacuum cleaners, there is a kill switch, that will not allow the machine to turn on without a bag in it. Sometimes when replacing the bag, the bag is placed in a position where the switch is not being activated.

When you open the bag housing, it should look like this;

You'll notice in the bottom right corner of the bag housing, the kill switch to the vacuum cleaner.

Try plugging the vacuum cleaner in, and while you are pressing this kill switch down, turn on the vacuum cleaner. Does the vacuum cleaner turn on/off when you push/release the kill switch? If it does, simply just get a new bag, and make sure that the new bag is covering the kill switch, and close the door of the vacuum cleaner.

If it still doesn't start, let me know and I'll try to help you diagnosis the machine differently. I'd say that 6 out of 10 times, this kill switch is the problem.

I hope this helps you. Please email me with any questions, or if this fix doesn't make your vacuum work. I really enjoy sharing my passion, and expertise in repairing vacuum cleaners.
