Could be a bad flame sensor, a kinked gas line, or you can have a restriction in your vent.

Dryer doesnt work on settings

I have repaired (2) gas Maytag dryers that appeared to have timer issues. In both cases, it wasn't the timer, but the temperature sensors. In both cases, I replaced them and the dryers operated A-OK. The sensors signal the timer to advance. One sensor is located just beyond the flame where the gas is burning, the other just before the squirrel cage blower. In addition, there are (2) electrical coils located in front of the gas igniter assembly. If replacing the temperature sensors doesn't fix the issue, then replace the coils.

On a gas dryer the heat normally only comes on for 30 seconds or until the drum temp reaches 160f at which time the flame is shut down by the cycling thermostat. The drum temp then starts to drop. When the drum temp reaches 105f then another blast of heat is issued for 30 more seconds. That is how they work. Put it all back together and trow a load in there.

Since you are already this far you have some knowledge of how you dryer works. What is wrong now is the heat sensor that picks up that the pilot is on. The pilot should burn at a steady flame when you turn the dryer on to heat this in turn heats a probe next to the piolit this is a type of heat sensor. When the probe or heat sensor senses heat it tells the gas valve that its okay to turn on. Have a great day and hope this helps.

check the gas coil valves on the gas valve as they get weak and cant keep the valve open to supply gas to the unit, otherwise it could be the heat cycling switch located on the burner tube thats getting bad

Dryer's flame cycles but will not burn

Check the following to address this issue..

1. Gas valve coils
Igniter glows, then shuts off without igniting gas - the problem is probably with defective coils (black, located on top of the gas valve). It is recommended to replace all coils (usually two or three) if found defective.

Note: Sometimes the whole gas valve may be defective, thus not letting the gas out. However, this problem is not common.

2. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

3. Igniter
Igniter may burn out or break. Replace the igniter if found defective.

Note: Igniters are very fragile and break easily. It is recommended to handle the igniter only touching the ceramic part of it (usually white in color).

4. Flame sensor (or radiant heat sensor)
Replace the sensor (located near the igniter) if found defective.

The problem is your gas valve solenoids (coils). There are usually two of them mounted on the burner assembly. One is the MAIN coil, the other is the SECONDARY coil. It is recommended that you replace BOTH of them at the same time. Replacements can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com. Just type in the model number you provided and look under the "Burner Assembly" section for items 13 and 14. I hope this helps you.
