Why bother? Use the free edition. Its the same as the paying one .Its just that the paying one offer free support and with a used serial number you probably wont get it.

AVG is an Antivirus product. If you do not have any antivirus protection (such as AVG or Norton), you need some. You can go to Start, Programs, Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs to see if it is listed. If it is listed you have it. If it is not, you can download it here.

There is a free version of AVG antivirus. It is a good product. After one year, it tries to make you purchase the upgrade. You can uninstall it and reinstall the free version. Sometimes there are traces left when you uninstall it, and you have to use a "cleaning" tool. Then you can re-install the free. Or purchase the upgrade.

AVG anti virus 6.0 serial number

Your AVG serial number should have been sent to you when you paid for your subscription.
Check your received emails from AVG.
If you cannot find it, try contacting them and ask for it.

Even so, the current version is 9, so yours is outdated. You should download and install the new one.
Temporarily, you can use their free version, which can be downloaded from this link:
http://free.avg.com/

Then see if you can upgrade using your older license.

Hope this helps.

Need help, I was told to contact Hp as I purchased a Vista Home premium edition Sept. 19th of this year. Now need the free windows 7 version sent to me so I may up grade. I have my reciept here with me....

That web-site _does_ work for me.
It redirects to:

https://www.hpwindows7upgrade.arvato.com/north_america/Endcustomer/default.aspx

This latter page states:

Welcome to the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program from HP

This program offers a Windows 7 Upgrade Kit for qualified HP PC customers.
For the easiest ordering process and to avoid delays we recommend that you:
1. Place your order using the eligible HP PC (or have it close-by)
2. Scan a copy of your eligible PC proof of purchase before you begin ordering

Important:
1. Proof of Purchase (receipt, packing slip) is required to complete your order.
2. Shipping and handling costs may apply. Your credit card will not be charged until your order is shipped.

The Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program from HP requires you to provide your HP PC product serial number.
Your serial number will be used to confirm program eligibility, and, after program completion,
will be archived by HP to meet Microsoft program requirements.
* I agree to provide the serial number of my HP PC in order to place a Windows 7 upgrade kit order.

Their "Contact Us" page states:
Important Customer Message: We are currently experiencing very high call volumes due to customer excitement over Windows 7. Thank you for your patience!
Please check out our Frequently Asked Questions for the answers to many common inquiries. If you have an existing order, please click on View/Track Order for current order status. Customers with accepted orders will be receiving an email in the next few days with updates on shipment schedules.
Email: hpupgrade@arvatousa.com

Phone (U.S. and Canada): 1-877-280-2279
*Support available Monday through Friday 10AM-10PM and Saturday 12PM-4:30PM (Eastern time)
------------------------------------------------------------

If you're on dial-up, scan the original receipt,
and find the "serial-number" somewhere on the case of your computer.
Then, find a computer (Public Library? Internet Cafe' ?) that has a high-speed connection, and try again to access the web-page that they told you to access.

Upgrading to AVG 8 from the 7.5 purchased version

Hi Collin there are several likely possibilities:

1) AVG keeps an extensive black lists of compromised
serial numbers.

These are numbers that have been published on the internet,
or numbers that have been associated with too many different
IP addresses during the download of automatic updates.

If a black listed serial number is detected during the daily
update sequence, Grisoft will send you a Trojan update
which disables your product.

2) A black listed serial number from the original installation,
may also propagate to any updates installed over the
top of it.

3) Also, AVG has become the target of many viruses, root kits
and Trojans that have found a way to hack it, remove it and
even prevent it from being re-installed, including many
"beagle" varieties.

4) AVG will not detect nor identify these viruses, even if you
manually find and scan the file.

AVG will however identify many false positives, as well as
most key generators designed to crack it (AVG).

5) The first thing you can do is contact AVG and complain
loudly in Czech or English. Their head office (Grisoft)
is in Brno in the Czech Republic.

6) Scan your machine with another product (!!!), including:

Rootkit Revealer (Free from Winternals/Mark Russinowich)
Black light (Trial ware from F-Secure)
Kaspersky
McAfee
Norton
etc.

I have had my AVG installation hacked by malware at least
a dozen times in the last year, so I no longer trust it. I still
use it, but I use a multitude of other products ad well.

Use only well known and reputable (brand name) products,
beware of hundreds of ROGUE scanners out there that are
themselves viruses and try to milk you for money.

7) Keep in mind that NO anti-malware product detects
everything, not even close, so you are fighting a loosing
battle.

8) Once you are reasonably confident that your machine is
clean, by using other products, totally remove AVG and
re-install it.

Isn't it ironic that you have to clean your machine BEFORE
you can install the ANTIVIRUS ?!!!

9) If you can't get your legit serial to work, do what all honest
angry customers do.

Go to a crack site, get yourself a bogus serial or a key
generator (check it for viruses with another product, not
AVG), Install AVG plus the current updates, before number
gets black-listed, and then DISABLE the automatic updates
in AVG as well as the Windows Scheduler Service.

BTW. Keep your key generator on a CD, because AVG
may detect it as a virus, and try to destroy it.

Martin

PS
If your software is legit, but the serial does NOT work, then:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
www.mscracks.com used to be the best site for serials,
but their domain name expired about a week ago, so I don't
know what gives.

crackspider is another one.
also try: Pirate Bay

Always disable scripts in your Firefox, before
visiting these sites, some may try to hack your
computer.
