Protect blinking in display is an error message, it is hardware problem, it is not some programing problem. This is safety feature to avoid further damage.
Unplug unit from wall socket, remove speaker wires from sound system and plug it in AC socket and turn it On, does it still give Protect in display?
If yes than output amplifier chip got defective and need to be replaced.

Sony hcd-ec99i i have no sound from the speakers at all. I am not getting the protect message. please help

Check the simple stuff first

Is it muted?

Is the source selected sending signal (radio staion broadcasting, cd playing, ipod all the way ect)

Try doing some basic troubleshooting like,

see if all sources available yield the same result (TV, Radio, CD, Ipod, Aux jack)

When you turn the volume all the way up, do you hear an audible hiss from the speakers?(or use a test tone) If so, your amp is working and the problem is, your unit is not sending any signal to it.

If possible hook up your speakers to another system to rule them out, however I doubt that is your problem.

Sony stereo protect mode

If "PROTECT" appears on the display: Immediately unplug the power cord, and check if anything blocking the ventilation holes on the back of the system after "PROTECT" disappears. After you have checked the ventilation holes and found to be all right, reconnect the power cord, and turn on the system. If the issue persists, contact your nearest Sony dealer.

The above is from the manual at

Hi I have a Sony MHC-EC99i when I plug in the power cord it show "Protect" even I had nothing is connected to the unit, what shall I do now ,thanks.

If it's showing 'Protect' without any Speakers connected then you've got a fault with the Amplifier.

Depending on your Technical ability you could remove the outer case and have a look at it yourself. It could just be blown Capacitors on the Amplifier PCB or could be worse and require complete new PCBs if they are available for this model.
