It's almost surely a failed ATI video card but you must do some testing to be sure.
First you must disconnect all hard disks and try to boot to BIOS without them - if you can't then it's a hard problem
Then obtain another PCI-E video card (whatever the type) and try to boot with it - if you can then your card has failed; if you can't then the problem is in the motherboard or the power source.
Finally replace the power source - if you can boot in the BIOS then your source is dead, if you can't it's the motherboard.

If you had problems even with an different card then you should check the power source - it may be ageing and no longer at full power and the PCI-E connector - you might need to press on the card a little more strongly when you install it, it got loose and is no longer making perfect contact.

For that open cpu cabinet cover then find motherboard . Reconnect RAM memory clean dust from all parts. Pull processor and it's fan then reconnect both. Remove pci card if any reattach vga card pull cmos cell from motherboard for 10 minutes then put it back then check. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Yes swapped it with a older card [PCIE], but same problem, IDK if the card i tested with will work with This apple.

  • Hilton Bristol Aug 04, 2010

You say you use an older card but that will not give result unless you sure the card was good and if it is compatible with you mac PC, you need to use a Graphic card/video card which is design for Apple PC.
You can look at this video explain everything about the card and how to put it in the computer.

Hello.

From Apple Support:

In July 2008, NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors due to a packaging defect. At that same time, NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected. However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within four years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty.

If you have the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor, contact an Apple Store or your nearest Apple Contact Center.

Hope this helps.

Hi i have a macpro 13" not turn on ,the pwr adapter light its dim, i replace the adapter and continue not turn on . its not a new mac and was working few hour ago

If the power supply is dim it indicates a motherboard problem and is loading the charger down. The only option is to have a computer tech who is familiar with Apple Notebooks to check it out with an estimate.

MacPro 8-core fails to startup. No power.

If nothing is happening, then you probably have a bad power supply or you have bad connections between your power supply and motherboard. You can take the cover off and make sure that everything is plugged in well. Make sure to touch the side of the case to dispel all static electricity before you touch any of the components. If the machine fans turn on and then it refuses to boot, you might have a bad hard drive or a motherboard issue. If you hear any beeps at startup, you can look those up online because every beep configuration is a clue to something wrong with the machine.

Well it's a CD-RW to start with.
That means that is 5 years old or older,
You will need to replace that old CD-Rom with a new one. When you remove it, look at the cable connector and I'll bet it's a standard IDE interface. IDE should be stamped somewhere on the CD-Rom. That means that you wont have to buy your new one from Apple for 10 times the price it's actually worth. You can get a far better one at Walmart, Costco or BestBuy. Set the jumpers exactly as your old CD-Rom, install it and problem solved.

Hi, I have forgotten password for Macpro apple. how could i get involve?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

I cant find Macpro, but Macbook pro from Apple.

- if this is the one, then:

In a word 'no', you need the disk, then it is very easy.

If you have lost your disks, Apple will replace them for a small cost, less than the price of a retail version of Tiger.

You could also take it to your local Apple Store and ask if they will help...they shouldn't charge you anything !

When turning on my macbook pro

Does it work with an external?

1) If it does boot through external. Your LCD, LCD inverter, or LCD cable may need replacement.

2) If it does not boot, then it may be problems with video card or motherboard problem. May need motherboard replacement.

Please let me know the follow ups of it. Thanks!
