Question about Delta & Single Handle Shower Faucet

1 Answer

Delta single handle shower control recently lost pressure to the showerhead. I took the control apart and found 2 chunks of rust in the hot supply side. I turned on water w/out valve to clear line. I disassembled value to check for debris and reassembled.. Plenty of flow from hot and cold supply but not at spout and head. I assume water goes through the valve to the spout-then is diverted to head. How do I get into the body to make sure fitting is clear to the spout.

Before you do that remove shower head and see if you have flow without the head. The shower heads clog much more easily than the diverter valve

that was the 1st thing I did. plugging the shower head and blowing into value manifold-(w valve assemly removed) it is difficult to pass air to the spout. pugging manifold and blowing into spout , air passes freely

Is this the model with the little diverter button that extends through the escutcheon? If so remove the escutcheon , and you should be able to unscrew the diverter valve. Once you clean it, test it with the shower head completely unscrewed from the arm (1/2" pip thread not swivel).

I just installed a new shower with no tub. I have water to my delta fixture but no water out the head. I used shark bite connectors and did not solder the fittings

Are your walls still open? I assume they are as you'd be unlikely to close them up without having had tested your water flow. Here is what I would do.
1.) use the orange plastic C shaped release tool to depress the white plastic ring on the shark bite fitting that you have on the delta side of the Delta-ShowerHead connection.
2.) Carefully and slowly turn water on and see if water is exiting the fixture where you expect it to.

IF yes, water is coming out of the delta fixture then you know the flow problem is somewhere between the delta fixture and your shower head.
IF no, water is not coming out the delta fixture then you need to re-access how you connected the supply lines to the delta fixture.

I had the same problem. My building manager showed me that you have to yank the circular portion at the end the of spout where the water comes out downward and the water will be diverted to the showerhead.

I have an older single handle Delta shower valve, and I am only able to get good water pressure on cold water (which is opposite of the normal right hand). Can you suggest a solution?

A rebuild kit for a shower is pretty cheap for delta. the actual ball behind the handle maybe wore and not allowing it to seat properly and restricing water flow hot side.

Also if you take it appart the 2 washers and springs you might as well replace them also.

Replace washers and springs and the ball with shaft that handle fits to.

Shut off water before taking appart.

Pulsating water and poor hot water pressure

Based on your description it sounds like the pressure balancing valve could be gunked up with particulate from your well or just worn out. If your water is not filtered to that shower I would lean more towards particulate. Try to remove the cartridge and take it to a plumbing parts store for a match-up since Delta makes several cartridges and you want to get it right the first time.

Water is not very hot.

First try adjusting the pressure balancing gear located right behind the handle. If you still do not have hot water I suggest to replace the cartridge.

Water does not come from the shower head

Hi,
If your showre head has an external adjustment (usually on the face of the head) make sure that it is opened. Shower saver type valves have a push button on the pipe from the wall to the showerhead, usually close to or are a part of the showerhead. Make sure that it is opened, if you have one. Once done, remove the shower head and turn the water on. If you get water, look into the shower head. Most come with a water restrictor and it can come out of position and block the passage of water. The restrictors can vary in appearance, but usually they consist of a rubber washer and plastic disc, and are in the back of the showerhead where it unscrews from the piping from the wall. If you can get water without the shower head on, but no water through the showerhead, you can take it apart and look for restrictions or just replace it. If you cannot get water after all that, the problem is in your faucet or piping. Most Delta single handled faucets that I'm familiar with have a spring and cup washer valving arrangement. Those equipped with scald gard are somewhat more difficult to work on. Parts are available from H/Depot, Lowe's and similar. Hopefully the problem is in the showerhead proper, and not in the valve.
Best 'o luck, --W/D--

Delta single handle faucet. Hot or cold no in between.

well they should be same size but unless you getting more of one then other then sound like mixing valve is not mixing. do have 3/4 hook up to mixing valve? you only need 1/2" to valve.

My shower has a delta monitor single faucet. And the flow has diminished so much that I am only getting few drops. The house has a lot of water pressure. What can I do?

Sounds like you have lost pressure on one side of the valve. ( either hot or cold ) Or the cartridge has gone bad. If you have hard water if probably is the cartridge. There are a couple of different series for your style of faucet.

The reason why you only get a few drops is the cartridge is pressure balancing. It is a safety device which prevents scalding if one side of the supply shuts down.
