Question about Punch Home Design Architectural 3000 (c20412) for PC

1 Answer

Home Design Architectural Series 3000 version 10

Just got this and installed it and told it okay to register the product right now but the custhelp page won't open so it wouldn't let me do it. Then I tried to open the software but all I get is "OpenGL failed to create the rendering context". It can't get past this. Any help? Do I need to reinstall?

My punch professional home design suite platinum version 12 will not work on my laptop with windows 7. Is there a way to get it to work? I cannot afford to buy a newer version and don't believe I should...

The only way you can get this software to work on your pc is by 2 ways:

1) Easy way: Calll PUNCH the manufacturer of this software and ask them if there is a patch or new software to purchase that is compatable to winodws 7

2) Hard way: You may need to make a dual boot hard drive with 2 operating systems on one hard drive. You may need to create a partition, then install the old Windows Vista on the new partition and learn to boot one or the other os when you need to use the punch software.

Please write back which one you want to do so I can help you with either one.

Can not load software on vista

This software is not compatible with Windows Vista. I believe you can only use it with XP. 3D Home Architect Deluxe from Broderbund has been discontinued.
Only works with:
Microsoft Windows 98/Me/2000/Xp Pentium II class processor (300 MHz or higher) 96 MB RAM (128 MB Recommended)

There is a version 6.0 of this software but has bad reviews.
I found a better rated software like this one:
Home Design Architectural Series 18
This has received "TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award".

Includes:

  • Cabinet Wizard™
  • Texture Builder™
  • PlantFinder™
  • PhotoView™
  • Ultimate Deck™ - Deck design software module
  • Master Landscape™ - Landscape design program
  • 3D Furniture Workshop™ - Custom furniture design
  • FloorPlan Trace™
  • Home Estimator™
  • AutoFraming™
  • 3D RealModel
I found this from: http://home-design-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

Husband downloading upgrade

generally when this occures it has to do with an anti virus program running at the same time. with most programs from site that are not known to the computer the anti virus plays havoc. turn your anti virus program off. and try the download again. if this still happens then you have a registry error which could be caused by a configuration fault. then. click on the windows config wizard and have it reconfigure your cache and registry then download the program. remember to turn your anti virus afterward.. please rate this thanks

The textures going to the sky / grass is a classical issue of a videocard problem
Try to follow these steps
1 - Go to the website of your video card manufacturer (it can be found using any search engine and the manufacturer's name and the card model). Look for downloads, and see if you have the latest version of driver software for your model of video card (you can find your current driver's version at Video Settings->Advanced->Adapter). If there is a newer one for your card and the operating system, you are running, download and install it following the manufacturer's directions.
2 - Click on Start->Run and type in "dxdiag", and click Run. The DirectX diagnostic will run, and tell you what version of DirectX you are currently using. Go out to www.microsoft.com/directx, and see what version is current. If your version is not current, read the install instructions, the system requirements, and the FAQ. It is recommended that you download the latest version and install it.
3 - Try to slowdwn the videpcard accelerations: To slow down accelerations--> click on an empty part of the windows Desktop, click on Settings->Advanced->Troubleshoot. Back the accelerations slider to the left, one level each time and see if the problem dissapears

Hope this helps

Choosing Materials

Jen, Sounds like video display issues. Could be screen resolution/ color display. Check the display properties in Control Panel. If its 32bit try 16 bit. If the resolution is too high(or low)change accordingly and the refresh rate. If your display allows selecting default settings, select default and then make changes from there. 2nd (which should have been 1st) Is your video display adapter compatible? i.e do you have atleast the minimum recommended video card. 3rd. Update your video card drivers. Good Luck, Tim
