Question about Televison & Video

Speakers are blown. I bought the TV repackaged for a good price about 2 years ago and now I need to replace the speakers. The speakers are only $40 but the labor is $180. Can I repolace these myself? I'm a builder and not afraid or ignorant of repairs. Also, should I even consider repairing it or but another TV? Some blogs are talking about a capacitor problem............thoughts?

Hi barry546,
The replacement of the speakers on an LCD should be easy. If the speakers cost you $40 and you can save on labour by DIY then is still cheaper then buying a new TV.
What's the model number of your LCD?

Hi there,

I have a sceptre flat screen i bought 2 years ago (40") the sound just quit can hook up external speakers?

Read the owner manual or check all the inputs on the rear to see if it has those connections---it is also possible a surround system routed from a box (cable or sat) might work to bypass this issue.

and do not forget to check in the set menu that the speakers did not somehow get switched to OFF.

Need GOOD Info. on speakers for our FS TV...

Avoid Emerson like the plague. Company was in 1950 a US company and later merged with Dumont.

What happened about 30 years ago was someone bought the right to use that name and produced junky sets--that tradition for all products with that name continues today.

Customer support is nil and all the products (no surprise) are poor quality and if you even need a remote control it will if can be found cost a fortune.

Likely that speakers with that name are made in China and corners cut etc to sell them for less than better ones--shop not just the price but the quality of service and or help you might get if you have a issue.

I do not hate the brand but know poor quality etc when I see it, have on several occasions had to try to fix a product with that name and got zero from the company.

Samsung 40" flat screen looses sound

this problem started on my LN-S4051D a couple of years ago. eventually the sound stopped working altogether. I then started using my surround sound speakers for the TV via optical out but soon that stopped working as well. I recently took the TV to a repair shop who said that the main board is bad and needs to be replaced. Labor plus parts was going to cost me $400. I said no thanks and paid for the estimate. Good luck.

Is there anyway to fix a blown Bose Speaker (201)?

The only 2 solutions are: 1. Just find an equivalent driver to replace. Re-wire new driver speakers into the enclosures. The old 201s may have had decent drivers (although probably paper cone) for back then, but now just about anything will sound as good in those particular cabinets.
2. Call Bose and exchange them for current 201 speakers (higher clarity more powerful). Bose will give you about 30-40% off I believe on a series 5 model. They now pay for inbound and outbound shipping as well.

Bass rattling on Bose Companion 2

My Companion 2 speakers were having the same problem with the rattling on certain frequencies and I am happy to say that Steve Allison was correct in my case. The speakers don't handle surround settings very well so if you're running your speakers through a source that had that setting turned on the easiest way to stop the rattling is to just turn the surround setting off. The speakers weren't really made to handle that kind of a signal.

My television

depending on what kind of TV it Is, If Its HD or like the Flat Kind My Solution wount help, because i've never took one apart before. if its a big bulcky kind take the screws off an an take the back cover off, but be sure to be carfull with the lil glass bulb located on the back of the screen it holds a chemical in it, an tv wount work, once taken off you could either replace the blown speaker, or just run a speaker wire from the wire connected to the blown speaker an run it out the vents on the TV an find any speaker not with too many watts, ive hooked up 2 150 watt speakers to mine an it worked fine i hade the same prob. another thing, if your warrenty is stil good you could get a replacment

My TV was a bit newer than yours but the backlight was blown and the repair estimate was $2300 Cdn. After I caught my breath from laughing, I dialed Sony customer care. In my opinion, they needed to stand by their very expensive product because I bought Sony for a reason, and this wasn't it. Fortunately they shared my opinion. Dealing with them was a delight. They were both sympathetic and responsive. They offered me a couple of their newer 40" models at greatly reduced prices and I accepted the better grade one. They shipped it to me for free. I am now the proud owner of their 2008 KDL40V4100, which was $1799 on their web site, and it is stunning. Truly. The improvements that Sony has made to their sets since the time I bought mine was well worth the $1000 I paid to get the replacement, AND they threw in 2 extra years warranty. This is one of the reasons you buy the name. Never hesitate to politely call up and express concern about a product. Companies want to encourage brand loyalty and I for one will never hesitate to buy Sony again.  Good luck!
