The reset procedure depends upon the make and model of projector which you've failed to mention.

Resetting the counter to zero has no affect at all on the lamp, but it is useful as a means of keeping a log on the hours after the lamp has been replaced. It helps to determine whether a lamp has failed prematurely, but more importantly it enables the user to be able to estimate when the next lamp change will be necessary. It was especially useful back when lamps were extremely expensive; they're not exactly cheap now, but at least the prices are often low enough to justify buying one as a readily available spare.

Its a pretty simple process on this particular model make sure the new lamp has been installed properly, and the power to the projector is on and then:

i. Press and hold the Up Arrow on the projector for 5 seconds to display the total used lamp time.
ii. Press AUTO on the projector or on the remote control to reset the lamp hour to "0".
iii. Wait about 5 seconds to let the OSD disappear.

You CAN reset the lamp hours. It is surprisingly easy.

Hold UP on the projector until the lamp hours appear. Then press left or right to reset.

This took me a while to find! But it's in the service manual.

Did you reset the hours on the lamp with the menu options on your set? Sometimes, if you do not do that it can mess with the tv performance thinking that its over hours. It needs to be reset to 0 again...
