Are you using geninue Microboards new cartidges or refills? If you are using the new Microboards ink carts, then you have a bad cartridge, or possibly a bad batch. Simply call Microboards tech support at 952.556.1639.

SOURCE: only prints color--black ink is full, just put in a new cartridge

Instead of trying to change or find a "setting", the fastest resolution is to uninstall and reinstall the Printer, If not sure how, click start, click control panel, on the left of the window if you see switch to classic view, click there, IF XP, click Add/Remove Programs, if VISTA, click programs and features, remove all entries and reinsert install disk and repeat setup

SOURCE: I have an i470D since changing black cartridge it

You need a new printhead, # QY6-0054-000 around $40.00. Since black is printed the most, it's usually the first to quit.

SOURCE: Printer only prints with red & black inks

You should take it back and exchange it or read on below.
Most modern cartridges have an ink level chip built on to them.
Should the level drop below 25% then most of these chips lock up and will not reset.
Re-filling them will have no effect
If you are lucky you should be able to find either a chip resetter around on the internet or maybe even local
OR
Even better empty cartridges that never need to be reset.
The second option is my preference
I realise these are not for your specific printer but there are others listed on both those sites as well

Lexmark 730 not printing

Regarding the Lex1 cartridge's no printing/severe fade (or similar) during printing, my answers are provided below:

For the poor print quality problem (degraded image quality) you are observing, we suggest you first visit the "Print Quality" page of the "General Information" section of the Inkjet 411 website and follow the suggestions provided: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1432

A. 1. Cartridge & Printer maintenance should also be evaluated - ensure both ink cartridges and flexible driver contact cables (where the cartridge interfaces to the carriage inside the printer) are thoroughly clean: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

A.2. Perform a hot-water flush on the suspect ink cartridge, refer to video procedure here: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

A.3. Run a quick test print to evaluate cartridge performance (i.e. 4-color test print):
http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=146

For information on North American ink refill services (for Lexmark 1, 2 and 3 ink cartridges) at a major retailer near you (should you wish to save ~50% on ink costs), general printing problem resolutions or advanced Lexmark printer diagnosis procedures (advanced cartridge diagnostic tests/cartridge error bypass & printer reset methods, etc.), please visit Inkjet411: http://www.inkjet411.com

Lines on print. There's are three lines on picture print only. Can't see the line on document. It's about 1/4 inch wide and going throught top to bottom.

Have ou gone into your menus. Into troubleshooting, then image quality.
You will want to run both the eliminate light stripes and eliminate smears procedures. that will purge the print head, blow air through the jets and hopefully resolve the problem. I do believe the 8550 has a Jet Substitutin procedure where you can do a workaround and make other jets make up for the light areas.
here are some directions, Will forward more

  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Troubleshooting Print Quality Page], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Evaluate the 'Light Stripes Test' page for missing printhead jets, such as missing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black color bars. The 'Light Stripes Test' page is the last page of the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page that printed.

WARNING: To avoid injury, do not touch the sharp metal strip attached to the clear rubber wiper blade in the Maintenance Kit.

  5. Use a clean lint-free cloth or a new paper coffee filter to gently clean the maintenance unit's clear rubber wiper blade, use only a wiping motion across the entire length of the wiper blade, and then empty the waste tray. A dirty maintenance kit wiper blade can cause white lines and weak or missing printhead jets.

  6. 8500-wiper-blade-clean.jpg

  7. Repeat step 3 to reprint the Troubleshooting Print Quality Pages. If there are no missing or partially missing color bars then the print quality problem has been resolved. If there are missing or partially missing color bars then the printhead cleaning procedure will need to be performed. Continue with the next section.
To clean the printhead using the basic eliminate light stripes procedure:
  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Eliminate Light Stripes], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Basic], and then press the [OK] button. The printer will perform a head cleaning, which will take about five minutes. The printer will then print a cleaning page and a light stripes test page.
  5. Repeat steps 1 - 4 one more time. If there are no weak or missing jets then the print quality problem has been resolved. If there are still weak or missing jets after two basic light stripe cleanings, continue with step 6.

NOTE: Do not try the Advanced Eliminate Light Stripes Cleaning mode without performing two basic cleanings first.

To clean the printhead using the advanced eliminate light stripes procedure:

  6. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Advanced], and then press the [OK] button.
  7. Select the missing jet color and number. If necessary, check the light stripes test page to determine the color and jet number of the missing jet.

NOTE: Only perform the advanced light stripe cleaning once. If weak or missing jets still persist, continue with step 8.

  8. Print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page. Evaluate the Light Stripes Test page for missing printhead jets, such as missing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black color bars. If necessary, perform the basic eliminate light stripes procedure one more time. If the Advanced Eliminate Light Stripes procedure does not resolve the weak or missing jets, perform the Enable Jet Substitution Mode. See the Related Items below.

Step one: Check the ink cartridges HP doesn't guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. If the ink cartridges have been refilled, try replacing them with genuine HP ink cartridges. If you have checked the ink cartridges and are still experiencing a problem, proceed to Step two. Step two: Print a test page
  1. Verify that there is plain white paper in the input tray.
  2. Press the OK and Help buttons simultaneously. A two-page Extended Self Test Diagnostic Page prints. Figure 1: Extended Self Test Diagnostic Pagec00728269.gif
  3. In the Print Quality Pattern section on the second page of the test page, look at the color blocks for any lines. Figure 2: Print Quality Patternc00728270.gif
  4. If the colors are still wrong in the Print Quality Pattern color blocks, print a document to determine if the issue has been resolved.
If you have completed all of the steps above and are still experiencing a problem, proceed to Step three. Step three: Check the printer settings
  1. In the software application you are trying to print from, click File and then clickPrint . The Print dialog box opens.
  2. Verify that your printer is selected and then click Preferences . The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.

    • Photo Printing with white borders
    • Two Sided (Duplex) Printing
    • Presentation Printing

    • Paper type : If one of the options matches your paper type exactly, choose it rather than Automatic.
    • Paper size : Make sure this matches your paper.
    • Print in Grayscale : Print a document in shades of gray.
    • Orientation : Specify how the document is positioned on the page.
    • Paper Source : Select the tray that you want to use for printing.

The Paper light keeps flashing when theres paper in the printer

A few things could be happening here.

1. Clear the print queue, and if there are jobs that won't delete, reboot the computer.
2. Now clear the jobs on the printer (cancel job button) until the status light turns green.
3. Put a piece of paper in the manual feed tray on the front.
4. Print a test page.
If the test page prints to the paper in the manual feed tray, then it is set as the default tray. Go into the printer settings and change it to "auto" or tray 1. If the test page prints to tray 1, but the original document you tried to print (when it got stuck) still won't print, cancel the job. Now, again, put paper in the manual feed tray. Try to print the document again and if it pulls from there, go into page setup of your document and change the setting from "manual" to "auto" or tray 1. Clear the job again (if it's stuck) and you should be able to print again. Hope this helps. This is one of the most common solutions - it happens a lot, especially with documents that are emailed from other people and once they get stuck in the queue, nothing will print (except the test pages directly from the printer, like you describe).

Print Stripes

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpa00226&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=304445&rule=42852&lang=en HP has indications that the lubricant on the printer carriage assembly tabs and the flex circuit contacts on the print cartridge can collect debris (fibers and dust), which may cause poor output. The lubricant is used to ensure that the interaction between the pen and the carriage assembly does not cause tears in the flex circuit. Refer to the following instructions to solve this issue. Cleaning the Inkjet cartridges can improve the quality of printing. If the printed page is missing lines or dots, or if it contains ink streaks, perform Procedure 1 in this section. If problems persist after performing Procedure 1, perform Procedure 2. NOTE: Use plain paper for these maintenance activities rather than more expensive specialty papers. Procedure 1: Cleaning the cartridge electrical contacts 1. Turn on the printer. 2. Open the top cover. The cartridges should move to the center of the printer. 3. Unplug the printer?s power cord from the power outlet. WARNING: Keep new and used cartridges out of the reach of children. 4. Remove the color cartridge. 5. Clean the electrical contacts (see Figure 1). Figure 1: Cleaning the cartridge electrical contacts A- Use a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth. B- Locate the copper-colored circuitry strip on the back of the cartridge. C- Wipe the coppers strip with the dry cloth. Use an upward motion, from the nozzle end to the top of the cartridge. CAUTION: Do not wipe the nozzle plate on the bottom of the cartridge. Wiping the nozzle plate can damage the cartridge (Figure 2). Figure 2: Do not wipe the nozzle plate 6. Remove the black cartridge. With a clean part of the cloth, repeat Step 5 with the black ink cartridge. Cleaning the electrical contacts inside the carriage assembly 1. Look for fibers or other contaminants on the electrical contacts inside the carriage assembly. The contacts in the printer can be damaged if too much pressure is applied during the wiping process. If necessary, the contacts may be cleaned by wiping them very gently with a dry, lint-free cloth (see Figure 3). Try to gently remove any visible debris within the carriage. WARNING: Make sure the printer power is turned off before cleaning inside of the printer. Figure 3: Cleaning the contacts inside the printer 2. Reinsert both cartridges. On models with cradle latches, close the cradle latch over the top of the cartridges. 3. Close the top cover. 4. Plug the power cord into the power outlet. 5. Print a test page. If the problem persists, go to Procedure 2. Procedure 2: Aligning and cleaning the cartridges Use the HP Deskjet Toolbox or Printer Assistant utility on the desktop (the utility name will depend on which HP Deskjet model is installed on the computer). NOTE: HP Deskjet Toolbox or Printer Assistant is for Windows users. HP Deskjet Toolbox: To align the cartridges from the HP Deskjet toolbox: 1. Open the HP Deskjet toolbox. The toolbox is located on your desktop in Microsoft ®) Windows XP, Me, 2000, 98, 95, and NT 4.0. In Windows 3.1x, the toolbox is located in the program group for the printer. 2. Select the Printer Services tab in the toolbox. 3. Select Cartridge Alignment and follow the steps on the screen. 4. After the alignment process is completed, perform a Cartridge Cleaning from the toolbox. 1. Double-click the HP Deskjet Toolbox shortcut (or icon) on the desktop. 2. Click the Printer Services tab. 3. Click Clean the Print Cartridges. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen HP Printer Assistant: To align the cartridges from the Printer Assistant: 1. Launch the Printer Assistant by clicking the Printer Assistant icon located on the desktop 2. Select tools and updates. 3. Go to printer maintenance. 4. Select calibrate printer. 5. Click calibrate and follow the onscreen instructions. Further instructions on calibrating the printer cartridges using the Printer Assistant can be found on document npd09616 - HP DJ 3320,3325 and 3420 series printers - how to calibrate the print cartridges After the alignment process is completed, perform a Cartridge Cleaning from Printer Assistant. 1. Select tools and updates. 2. Go to printer maintenance 3. Select clean cartridges. 4. Click clean and follow the onscreen instructions. If the problem persists, the cartridge should be replaced. If the cartridge still exhibits banding even after cleaning and priming actions in the HP Deskjet Toolbox are complete, the cartridge may need to be replaced. Verify the end for warranty date on the supply before returning it to the reseller. Typically, banding problems are most pronounced in images produced on plain paper in Normal mode. In many cases, simply changing to Best mode will alleviate the problem and produce satisfactory output. If switching modes does not result in acceptable performance, try using the cleaning steps described above. Internal test from the printer Running an internal test from the printer can perform a clean test. See document titled HP Deskjet Printers - How To Print Internal Tests for instructions on how to run internal tests. If the problem persists, replace the cartridge. Let me know if that helps. Good Luck, Tim
