Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a kenmore washing machine model # 1010.26901691. The lid switch came loose from the lid. How do I fix it? It just happened today. The swith still works because I can use it by pushing on it with my hand.

See the following two sites:

The first is the Sears parts site for your washer. Look at the diagrams of the cabinet and you should see how the switch mounts to the cabinet.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.26901691&pathTaken=partSearch

The second is an illustrated description of how to release the console and remove the cabinet.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=cb8b3ea4541b3a939d5d25a5f4b81e48

Between the two you should be able to see how the switch connects and either tighten the screw, use a larger screw to mount it or if the mounting bracket(s) are broken, replace the switch.

How do I find the lid sensor switch on a Kenmore 500 washing machine

If the washing machine stops in the middle of the cycle then it is very unlikely the lid switch is involved. It could be a number of reasons.

Best to drain the washing machine and repeat the cycle a few times to check if it happens at the same point. Could be a problem with the timer or pressure switch.

You can locate all the parts and their location in this site. I hope I have the correct model for your washing machine.

the lid switch may be loose or broken it happens to me it was washing but never rinse i found out that it was a loose switch this switch prevents the rinse cycle from working with the lid open because of the high speed rinse ,some machines dont work at all, a loose switch makes the machine think the lid is open even if it is closed.good luck.

I filled my washing machine with clothes tonight and it got to the end of the short cold wash cycle and had stopped running so I pushed in the knob then pulled it back out and then pushed it back in and...

It sounds as if the machine doesn't spin during the spin cycle. Normally the agitator stops spinning, fairly quickly, if the lid is opened during the spin cycle. That safety circuit includes a switch mounted under the opening and is set by a tab on the lid that protrudes thru a small hole in the top of the washer. The most likely failure on most Kenmore models is that switch, broken or loose, the tab on the lid broken, or the two misaligned. I would need the model number of your washer, located on a tag on the bottom of the lid to be more specific

Kenmore washing machine model 110 wash cycle stops

DOES IT DO THIS ON EVERY WASH OR SOMETIMES? IF SOMETIMES, CHECK LID SWITCH( THERE'S A LITTLE HOLE WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, ON THE LID SHOULD HAVE A LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES IN THAT HOLE. THE SWITCH IS UNDER, INSIDE THAT HOLE. YOU CAN GET A PEN OR KEY TO SEE IF IT'S BROKEN.)

Kenmore washer model number 110.22642100 won't spin

check the lid switch. if the machine is agitating and washing but won't spin it is probably the lid switch. this is the switch on the top front right of the machine with the lid open. you will see two phillip head screws holding it in place. easy fix is to unplug machine and take screws out of swith, clip wires and use wire nuts to connect another switch.

Broken Machine-Kenmore 70 series Washing Machine

This is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. If your model number is correct, the lid switch for your washer is located under the right hand side of the washer casing along the wash tub rim. The switch is activated by a small plastic piece on the washer lid (called a "lid strike") through a small hole. The switch contacts close when you shut the lid. In many cases, the lid switch either comes loose, or the lid strike breaks off. In both cases, the washer will exhibit the symptoms you describe. Open and close the washer lid and listen for a distinctive "clicking" sound as the switch contacts close. If you cannot hear the switch, make sure the lid strike is intact and the mounting screws for the lid switch (located around the wash tub opening on the casing) are tight. Sometimes, all it takes is to tighten the lid switch screws to realign it with the lid strike. If the switch is defective, or the strike is missing, parts can be ordered on line at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number, which can be found on a nameplate under the washer lid. The lid switch and lid strike will be listed under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. Other sites that offer competitive pricing are repairclinic.com and appliancepartspros.com. If you require instructions on how to replace the switch, you may use the following link:

If you have questions, or if the diagnosis is incorrect, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Kenmore Washing Machine Model #110.91551200

The symptoms you are describing are a caused by a lid switch malfunction. A lid switch is a very simple and inexpensive fix. The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

In many cases a simple inspection of the lid switch is all it takes to fix it. It could be loose or not making proper contact. Check the mounting screws that hold the switch in place, first. If the screws are loose or missing, that may be all this required to get the switch to line up correctly with the lid strike. The lid strike is a small plastic piece that is physically mounted to the washer lid. The strike activates the switch through a slot as the lid closes. If the lid strike is broken or missing, this will also cause the same symptoms.

If the model number you have this listed under is correct, you can find replacement parts at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in the the model number and you can locate what you need under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. The lid switch is item number 11 (part #285671) and the lid strike is item number 20 (part #350733).

I hope you find this information helpful. The total cost of your repair is less than $50 if you follow the instructions in the link I provided and repair it yourself. Let me know if you require additional assistance.
