If it is the power adaptor, check it for faults.
If it is ok, check the usb cable.
It may also be the USB interface on the enclosure.
As a last resort you could remove the drive from the enclosure and buy a new one to put the drve in.
If the power adaptor needs replacing, it may be cheaper to get a new enclosure.
Check this 1 out, it is a cradle you can push your drives into without having the bother of fitting it inside, plus you can use any sata drive in it, if you have IDE drives, you can get an ide version also
It is £14

Did not have instructions on operation to copy files from old computer can any one help?

well this requires three steps usually

a back up old files on ext drive

format new drive to receive files

restore old files to new computer hard drive or ext drive

i also recommend you do a disk optimizer on old files first to clean up any fragmentation click here for a good one

1996 chevy 3500 7.4 vortec. the ecm fuse blows at the turn of a key

One of the power wire going from your ecm to a sensor or solenoid is shorting to ground. Get a wiring diagram and an ohm meter. disconnect the battery and start checking each wire measuring from the wire to ground. as you wiggle you will see the meter show 0 ohms when it is shorted. These are the hardest and most time consuming kind of electrical problems .good luck

I have had this hard drive for about a year now and it has been nothing but problematic. I reformatted like 4 months ago to ntcc as was advised it would make it more stable... It was great until a few days...

The bad news is that I think you have a bad drive. There's not much you can really do. A few little
things that you might try as a last ditch effort are make sure your USB connection is good use a good quality cable and hook up the drive to the back USB instead of the front this may help.
If the drive comes back alive try to backup your stuff right away. I wouldn't do this in very large
blocks and back up the most important stuff first. doing mass transfers of data can stress this drive even more.

If its a software problem, say some kind of malware is causing the problem get a copy of Linux Mint
and see if it will mount the drive. If its a malware problem Linux shouldn't be affected by it. Linux Mint is a Live Version that can be run from a CD-ROM and has all the tools to mount NTFS filesystems. and transfer data between them.

If a drive goes bad it usually gives signs it will click and whir continually with a funny rythym. If this
isn't happening then the drive may be good and the USB controller may be bad. If this is the case
the encased drive can be reomoved and unplugged from the USB controller and plugged into and
external hard drive cable or adapter.

If worse comes to worse one of your local computer repair shops may do data recovery BUT it can
be very expensive. If its your family picture album, your bands demo the've been working on for a year then going this route may be an option but backing up roms, mp3's and movies and such
will probably cost you more than its worth.

We have been using a 2 TB Samsung G3 Station External Hard Drive to connect to the TV through a laptop. One day it was working next day no power seems to be going through it. The light doesn't come on...

Assuming you don't hear any activity it might be the power supply that has died. Check if it's under any warrant.. if not you can always rescue the hard drive by taking it out of the enclosure and plugging it into your PC. Odds are it's a SATA drive. Either way.. taking it out of the enclosure will rule out of it's the hard drive or the components. Good luck.

I dont know why my external hard drive isnt showing up on my computer i think its lock, i dont know how it happen it was working fine a couple of days ago.

If the power light is on then I would get a new USB cable for it. If the power light is not on then you might need a new power cord.

> after one week

Western Digital warranties the disk-drive to work for at least one year.
If it does not, then exercise the warranty to get a replacement, at minimal cost to you.

Try connecting it to a different PC, to see if your PC's "blue-screens" happen without it being attached.

UPGRADE DRIVER FOR MAXTOR 3100 EXT HARD DRIVE

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.
