I have tried both msc and mtp modes with my rca mp3, it downloaded automatically on my previous computer but will not on this one. When I right click on opal drive, install rca is not an option, there is not an install option period. How can I get this downloaded on my computer

If you have tried MSC mode and your computer will not see it I would try a new data cable or a different USB port. MSC is just like a thumb drive and Vista or WIN 7 should pick it up right away. Once it is hooked up go to device manager and see if you have a yellow mark out next to an unknown device. Delete the device and then search for any changes to the system. See if it will pick up the player then. Go to the manf. web site and see if they have any updates for your player.

Not enough space


You should have your Sansa player set to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) when you are using it with any of the supported subscription (ie) iTunes, or Rhapsody music services. The main purpose of MTP is to transfer media files and associated metadata to/from devices, with optional additional support for reading and setting of device parameters such as special DRM-related device parameters for restricted content. Otherwise, you should set it to MSC (Mass Storage Class), which is the normal USB mode for storage devices like thumb drives, and camara SD memory cards.

MTP stands for Media Transfer Protocol. It is a Microsoft standard and is Microsoft's solution to connecting MP3 players and cameras to a w*ndow based Computer. MTP mode must be used in order to transfer ANY Digital Rights Management (DRM) protected content. MP3's downloaded form services like Rhapsody and Napster will only function in this MTP mode. Things to do if you are getting not enough space mesage.
1. Turn device OFF. 2. Facing the hold switch slide it to the right so an orange color would show putting the device on Hold. 3. Connect the device to the PC.


If you added songs to the device in MSC mode, then you switched to MTP mode, you will not be able to see the songs added in MSC mode and vice versa, though the space used on the player will still reflect their presence. Switching modes should make the files show up. For example, switching back to MSC or MTP mode.
For older players - e200v1, c200v1, c100, m200 - the files become hidden files if the modes are switched. An easy workaround is to edit the folder options to show hidden files.
STEP 1 - Edit the folder options of the computer to show the hidden files
Windows XP: 1. Double-click My Computer. 2. Under the Tools menu, select Folder options, then click the View tab. 3. Under Hidden files and folders option, select Show hidden files and folders. 4. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box. 5. Click Apply, then click OK.
Windows Vista: 1. Double-click Computer. 2. Click the Organize button on the upper left corner. 3. Click Folder and search options. 4. Click the View tab and select Show hidden files and folders. 5. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files check box. 6. Click Apply, then click OK.

SOLUTION 2 - Perform a Check Disk.
STEP 1 - Switch to MSC mode 1. On your Sansa player, switch the USB mode to MSC. 2. Connect the Sansa player to the PC.
STEP 2 - Perform Check Disk 1. Locate the Sansa player under My Computer. 2. Right-click the removable drive associated with the Sansa player, and select Properties. 3. Click the Tools tab, and then click Check now. 4. Click to select the Automatically fix the file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check boxes. 5. Click Start.

It will assign the first available drive letter to your device, as well as one for the memory card (if it uses one and it is installed). MSC is probably the better choice of the 2 modes, and is easiest to work with. Most computers detect the player in this mode without a problem very well and right away.

Turning on MSC or MTP modes

These settings will vary based on player model and you might have to refer to your users Manual. Chech there web site for a download in PDF form.
  • Turn the player on, if it is not already
  • Navigate to the main menu of your player; this is the same menu that gives us options such as Play, Record, Info, etc...
  • Navigate to "Settings" on the main menu of the player.
  • After navigating to "Settings", you should see an option that states "USB" or "USB MODE"
  • From here we can select MSC or MTP modes (could vary based on player model)
  • Highlight the desired mode and select it, at this point it will roll back to the 'Settings' menu
  • Connect the player to your computer and verify it is connecting in the desired mode.
It should be noted, when a device is in MSC mode, it will appear as a "Removable disk". When connected in MTP mode, it will show up as an "Audio Device".

Now most players now days can and will use`MS W*ndows Media Player. You can also try to reinstall
W*ndows Media Player 10 or 11

My Red Sansa Clip 4GB will not show on any computer i plug it into, It only charges and i have tried the auto detect, mtp, and msc settings. Any Suggestions?

My MP3 stopped working. It doesn't need to be


Just to be clear,most players require no special drivers. MSC mode will work out of the box with just about any MP3 player and any OS (W*ndows Linux). MTP mode will work as long as you have WMP 10 or 11 installed. Firstly, I will try to explain MSC mode and MTP mode and what they mean. MSC stands for Mass Storage Class. This is probably the more popular of the 2 modes, and is a more "open source" type of standard. Most computers detect the player in this mode without a problem very well and right away.

How do i dowload music to my opal M4208GR

This player has default setup MSC mode, seeing the player as a flash drive also called a removable disk.
MSC = Mass Storage Class
When seeing the player as a removable disk in Windows Explorer:
Drag and drop the song, with mp3 or wma format, into the Music folder on the player.
Note: some wma files may have DRM = Digital Rights Management. These files might be copied or transferred onto the player but cannot be started for playback.
Important: in MSC mode always safely remove hardware, the players' removable disk, at the bottom right corner of the task bar.

Transfers to the player can also be done with software like Windows Media Player 11, RCA easyRip or other software from music stores.
This can be done in MTP mode. MTP = Media Transfer Protocol.
How to switch to MTP mode, seeing the player as Media device:
In the players Menu go to Settings. Go to Protocol. Select MTP mode / switch from MSC mode to MTP mode.

My compter can not find my mp3 player


Go into the settings menu and switch it away from the USB mode it is in right now - if it is in MTP mode, change it to MSC and vice versa.

Make sure the lock switch on the back is in the unlocked position. For the player to say "Loading," especially the first time you plug it into the computer, is normal - your computer is communicating with the player, installing drivers, and trying to load the Easy Rip Software. If it stays on loading past 10 minutes, however, something is not right. If you have selected to open the device automatically using Windows Media Player, you are headed for trouble, especially if you have more music and other files on your computer than the mp3 player can handle. If you have accidentally done this, disable auto-sync in Windows Media Player.
If you have checked the above, and you are still having problems, disconnect the mp3 player from the computer. Hold in the power button for 10 seconds or more to reset the mp3 player. Try plugging the mp3 player into the computer again. If it stays on loading for more than 10 minutes, unplug the mp3 player, go into the settings menu and change the mode from MSC to MTP or vice versa. If it still misbehaves when you replug the mp3 player into the computer, download the latest Easy Rip software from RCA's website and update your player's firmware - take note of the section they have on Windows Vista if you have Windows Vista. Deleing songs


For Windows XPTM users, you are connecting the device in MTP mode to the computer by default. You will need to set the device to MSC mode, so go to the device menu\Settings\Advanced\Protocol = > Press Play/Pause key to select MSC mode which will appear as such on the screen. Reconnect the device to the computer, and you can now see those files and delete them.
DO NOT forget to set the device back to MTP mode when finished, so go to device menu\Setting\Advanced = > Select MTP mode.
