It didnt give me the security key or passphrase

do you mean to say that you where not asked for password when using the router. most routers need to be configured to have a password. this can be done by connecting the main line that comes from the modem/telephone to the router.
You open a browser and enter "192.68.1.1" without the quotes in an address bar. the default password should both be "admin" again without the quotes.
in the form fields you should find a place for the password request which you can configure to be asked upon login.
Please note that you may need to do a backup of your original network settings or simply write everything down to avoid settings conflict after changing the settings for the router (this normally happens when your i.s.p did not provide you with the router)
please do get back to me for more help should you need one.

Need to locate security key or passphrase

I can show you how to get into your router, but more often than not, your pass phrase or password is going to be starred or Astrix out. I can show you how to reset it without knowing or remembering it.

On a computer connected to the linksys now.

Click the link below

192.168.1.1

On the page that comes up, it will ask for a username and password.

type in admin for the password, leave the username blank

You are inside the router..

Click on wireless, then right under it click on wireless security.

Where it says, PSK / Passphrase / Or Network key .. There is a text box to the right

In that text box is your password.. If it looks like **************

You will have to type in a new password, and click apply / save settings.

Then.. The router will restart..

You have now found out, or reset your wireless password.

***Note*** If you changed the password.. The current computer will also have to reconnect to the network, and enter the new password.

Let me know how this worked out for you. If my solution helped you, please rate this solution!
It doesn't cost anything and only takes a second, but it is greatly appreciated.

I have a router that I bought about 5 years ago and I am trying to figure out how to change my wireless network connection from unsecured to secured? I tried reinstalling the disc but something is wrong...

Go to Linksys.com and get the directions from there. After you get them, remember to set system name to unique name, set wireless security, change channel to 11 to free up wireless land line interference. And change router password. Tape this info to the bottom of the router.

I have a wireless MacBook, trying to set up internet on iPod Touch. Do not remember nor can find password for router. Help!!

Hi Friend,

Connect the router to a computer and turn it on. Type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of the Internet Explorer and hit enter. Type admin as Username and password as Password(default password for netgear routers).

In the Setup page, click Wireless Settings tab. If the Security options is selected as WEP, then note down the password form Key1. If the Security options is selected as WPA then note down the password from Passphrase.

I hope this will resolve the issue.

regards
Chiranjeet

Can not remember or find network security key

You may need to access the router's setup page to check the security key or the network key you have set up to the router. To do this:
  1. Launch IE and type 192.168.1.1 on the address field using a computer that is wired to the router. It is the default IP address of the router. It will then ask for a username and password. By default, there is no username and the password is admin.
  2. Once you're in the router's user Interface, click Wireless tab. There is a sub-tab under Wireless which is called Wireless Security. Click on it.
  3. There you will find the type of wireless security you have enabled in your router as well as the network key.
Hope this helps!

Get to the security setting for my motorola sbg900

Bring up your internet browser, and in the address bar enter "192.168.0.1". This will bring up a page that asks for a password and username. The defaults are:

Username - "admin"
Password - "motorola"

From here click on the wireless option, then on security, and I would suggest using WEP, and throwing on encryption. Also you will probably want to click on the admin option at the far left to change your username and password, since if people know those security becomes a bit more pointless. Make sure you do not forget your new username and password, as you can probably see there are currently many people on this site with the problem of not remembering what they set it to. :)
