Hello,

Problem is in either power supply or the Y-Sustain board.

The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.

Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.

if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.

often that *needs* to be done in a service center as there are some adjustments to be made after replacement; don't know about this particular TV model
Hope this helpout.......

The kit comes with original Sanyo STK IC’S , not those cheap aftermarket or china made IC’S full pictorial directions, the thermal paste, resistors, the correct Pico fuses, AND free live on-Line tech assistance in case you run into a problem with the repair. They ship out 2 to 3 day Priority mail, the next day in most cases you may need to open the set and tell them what the STK numbers are on the chipsGOOD LUCK!!!

Pt5598hd convergence

I purchased mine about 5 months ago. Ive been researching and playing around with the remote. This will help you on the way. With the set off, press "Mute", 1, 8, 2 then turn the tv on. This will bring up the main settings, dont change any values on any page, unless you write the origonal values down first, because the total reset doesnt return everything to a "factory" preset. Scroll down to reset and press the enter key. I havent come across any owners or service manuals, and support is slim to none. I wrote a review for the same model on a wal-mart site I believe, and it explains adjustments in more detail. If you want to try to figure out the buttons for yourself, while the tv is on, press "Mute 1, 8, 3" this is another set of adjustments for finer detail. If you change an adjustment here and your not sure, just press the exit button. To save your adjustments in the convergence mode, press and hold the enter button, it should flash a few times and center itself on the screen. If you make a mistake in this mode, the total reset I mentioned first should get you back on track. If you find anything out or have a question, feel free to write me at [email protected] This is a nice TV, wonder why they stopped making them.

Akai PT5598HDX/SMS won't turn on

Just a thaught, I could be wrong, maybe a problem with the power button on the remote ? It might shut the TV off, and when you do keep pressing the remote button, the red light on the TV will keep flashing like that also. Ive seen this prob on a few other blogs, so seems to be pretty common. I know I like to keep the remote pointed at the TV all the time, maybe try pointing it away for a while, just to see.

No Picture

Hear say has it that Toshiba who made alot of the internal parts for this model can offer more help than Akai.
As for the other problems... first Id try leaving the TV unplugged for a day or so. This is a great TV, picked mine up for 400 from my boss who baught it a few years back for 1400 from Sams Club. If I hear a solution I'll be sure to come back here and post it.
