    Thanks Rylee,
I took the front off and looked at the bottom of the washer. I found some type of broken metal ring or washer sitting on the bottom of the main shaft and resting on thr belt pulley. It is in two pieces on the shaft.
    Any suggestions??

    Thanks,

    Mike D

    Thank you!
I found brioken bits of metal on the bottom of the washer. Could this be the washer spin bearing -upper? and how do I fix it myself?

    Thanks,

Thanks for all the help. I think with the latest help info, that I might have to replace the whole unit, but I will read the instructions and try to fix it anyway!

HI. Ok, here the deal here; Your transmission will lock up soon. If it is not moving at all in agitation mode, it is already semi-locked, in a way. Frigidaire dose not sell the gear kits for this unit. with that said; i would inspect the hub to be sure of its integrity. If the hub shows any signs of trauma or if it is stripped, it must be replaced. now; if the hub is in great condition, you will then need to replace the entire transmission. As i have already stated above, the transmission cannot be repaired by the owner of the unit, due to the fact that, there are no parts available to purchase on the market. it is a sealed gear assembly. You can only replace it. Click here to view an exploded view of the transmission. the hub will be labeled number 2 on the diagram provided. You will need to remove the inner and outer tub to access this part for inspection. If it is stripped, replace it. If it is not stripped, replace the entire transmission. The washer bearing block will be labeled number 27 on the diagram provided. If these bearing have failed, replace them along with the transmission if the hub checks out ok and it is not stripped. You will also need to purchase a tub seal kit(labeled number 26 on the diagram) during the transmission replacement procedure, as well.

Additionally; I have included a service manual, as well. This manual will help guide you through the disassembling procedure, which starts on page 62 of the manual provided. Click here to access the service manual for this unit.

The manual is quite large, so allow time for it to completely download and save it to your hard drive for future references.

Part number are below:

Transmission - 134735700
Hub - 134418700
Tub Seal Kit - 5303279394
Block Spacer - 131784400(labeled number 28 on the exploded diagram provided)
Washer bearing block - 131784300

  • In conclusion; Check the hub first to insure that it is ok and not stripped. if the hub proves to be in good condition, replace the entire transmission and seal kit, along with the washer bearing block and block spacer.

I am assuming this refers to a Washing Machine and not a dishwasher.

The symptoms are showing a problem with the agitator drive mechanism. Most likely a coupler has come off. The pump and drum rotation should be ok if you can complete the spin without problem.

Check out this site for the parts that you need to look at.

Hope this helps. Note the frigidaire and whirlpool come off the same factory so I am assuming your washer is identical to that shown here.

You have rejected my suggestions outright with 2 finger rating. Unfortunately it is hard for me to know whose solutions you are responding to as I cannot see the solutions provided by other experts prior to me. It would help me to understand better if you give a reason why you rejected my solution. Also considering you already had 2 solutions prior to mine - I am guessing you were not satisfied with the earlier solutions. Hard to know from your responses.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems to be two things: clicking noise which is heard if the timer is bad and the dishwasher will not complete its cycle which I don’t think is happening with your Dishwasher. The grinding noise that you hear all the time is from a cracked transmission assembly when this assembly is cracked you hear strange grinding noises. Also before replacing this transmission assembly you’ll need to make sure that the motor shaft is clean and is not rusted. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Possible that the grinding noise comes from the drum, irregular movement or broken paddles.
You can try and attempt only if equipped with a fundamental understanding of the working .

Normally that motor turns one direction for wash, and another direction for spin. Suggest you undo the coupling again and run the motor firstly in a wash mode. If all is well, forward dial to spin mode then watch if motor changes direction. If it doesnt, very possibly the timer is faulty. If it does change to the spin direction then your gearbox has a problem. Once the reverse direction comes into play, it is supposed to activate a series of gears in the gearbox which will engage the large drum into a spin direction. If there is a loud grinding noise then possibly a gearbox issue. email address is terfou@imaginet.co.za

Maytag neptune tl makes grinding sound and stops at 33 minutes in normal mode and at 24 minutes in quick wash mode

Hello djlampl,

With the lowest spin cycle setting I enter spin cycle in Quick Wash around the 21 minute mark. But first question is do you hear the grinding noise with the tumblers rotating during the wash/agitate cycle?

If you start a spin only cycle do you hear the grinding noise?

Does the washer error code out with an error code to the display? Codes such as dC, uC, Lr?, I assume the machine type is a FAV6800AW is that correct?

Any additional info will help in troubleshooting…..Rich

Assuming the machine type is a FAV6800A/FAV9800A here are some handy links;

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
