I have a traditional Perrin and Rowe shower set 1 that has developed a dripping leak from the shower rose (head). Does anyone know what the problem is and how it can be fixed? This is the model with the exposed thermostatic shower mixer (U5550) Thanks. Paul

The sealing rubber/washer in the tap has perished and water is leaking past it and up the pipe.
Turn off the water supply to the house. Turn the thermo control to its coldest setting. Open the tap to ensure water is no longer coming from the rose. Give it a minute or so. There may be residual water from the pipes higher than your mixer.
Above the thermostatic mixer is the tap that controls water flow. You need to undo the nut that holds its control arm(the arm that you turn to open the water flow) in place. Pull the arm off. Behind it is another nut which needs to be removed. Use a wash cloth over any tools that you use on this or you'll damage the finish.
Next is the actual tap that controls the actual volume of water through the system. Remove this as well. (part no 9.13501) Get it to your local hardware and ask if they have replacement washers for this unit or just buy a replacement unit.

Paying that price for your shower faucet, I would think the supply house would work with you on that. eBay shows cross handles so they are available.
The plumbing supply store should be able to order what you want.

Perrin and Rowe, Mayfair Series.- how do you take the perrin and rowe handle apart. The top of the handle has a ceramic disk inserted that says "Hot" or "Cold" and I am not sure whether...

The disk is glued on, but no need to remove. The entire section below the handle spins off, but most likely not by hand (hot did, not cold). I used channel lock pliers and some wood strips that I fabricated to prevent damage to the finish. You then need a thin 17mm wrench to remove the valve. I presume you are having problems turning the cold water handle? Seems common, I am working on it now, looks corroded so I am soaking it in 50/50 vinegar and water.

I wwould suggest contacting the source importer for this one, Rohl, at 1-800-777-9762. Be prepare with as much ownership information as you can. As a high quality high end faucet, all parts will most likely have to be special ordered so you want to know that what you are ordering is what you really need.

Dripping shower head

If it is dripping from the connection where it goes to the water spout you can unscrew the connection and wrap teflon tape or Pipe Joint Compound on the Threads. Now you can Thread the Shower Head Back on, with No Leak. IF..... It is leaking from the Shower Head Itself There May Be a Problem with the diverter handle/lever. If it has a Pull Type Lever, sometimes you can screw the Lever up or down for the proper water restriction to the Shower Head. However if the Hot and Cold Handle/Lever is OFF, There should not be any Water coming out from anywhere! If water is coming out off the Tub Spout, with the Shower Off, then you will have to replace some washers or Cartridges in the faucet(s) to stop the dripping. You can do this easily....Just Ask) Remember though, that some shower Heads may Drip for a Few Minutes After they are Turned off. There is still water in the Supply neck and needs to escape, either though the tub Spout or Shower Head.......Hope this Solution Helps you with your Drips.....Joe
