Try forcing the camera lens but be careful while doing this if something goes wrong your camera our lens can be damage

Turn off the camera. Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended.

Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a "click" as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on.

If the lens doesn't extend at all or it extends, and then retracts again, do the following. Turn the camera off. Take the camera in one hand and with the other gently take one part of the lens and gently move it round in a circular movement. Do so with both sections of the lens. You will hear a "click" as it pops back in place. Power the camera on.

Hi. Make sure the batteries are fully charged. Sometimes, when battery is low lens will not close down. If battery is fully charged and no change on the camera. I suggest the you take the camera to a technician and have it checked. Something is budging along the way that causes the lens not to move down.

    all the best!

Hi,
This indicate that there is some problem with your camera Lens. Try to follow these steps to resolve the issue:-
1) Switch the camera OFF and then ON again. (May be your camera lens is struggling to extend).

2) Press the Playback button on the back of your camera. The lens on your camera should retract.

3) Remove and recharge / replace the battery, If the error does not clear, Keep battery battery out of the camera overnight, and try again the next day.

First off what is the make and model of the camera? How long have you owned it and how long have you had this problem? Has the camera been bumped or dropped at all. Once I get this information I can assist you further.
Thank you,
Lee

If you just purchased it two weeks ago then depending on the stores policy either return it to where you bought it or have it repaired under canons manufacturer warranty. You can get the repair started at this link:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/online_rep...
Those are you two options and that way you can get the camera replaced or fixed at little or no cost to you. Also please take a moment to accept/rate my solution.
    Thank you and good luck,
    Lee

Lens is not opening

Take the lens out and look the bottom side of the lens. There is a lever that operates the aperture leaves. If the aperture leaves does not move or moving slow, you have oils on the aperture leaves which need cleaning.
If the lens is good, the camera's lever that move;s this lens' lever mechanism had gone bad. Take out the lens and watch the aperture control lever moves when you trip the shutter. If it is moving, the problem is with the lens.

The lens can move in and out in straight line. If, due to the hit the lens casing got bent then it will stop moving. The glass may be fine but the casing seems to have taken a dent and is touching the sides somewhere. And to zoom in or out the lens have to move in and out. Try to get the lens in the middle of the lens well. Try to pull it out when powering on.

Lens is stuck out

Chanches are the lens received impact damage or there is some dirt, liquid like pop that is blocking your lens from moving. Try moving the lens and see if this will dislodge the lens. View the lens from top and sides, if it is sitting on an angle it has received impact damage.

Lens does not move manually

You should not try to manually retract lens because lens has few gears in loading mechanism that can be broke if you put some force in try to rotate on lens.

Unable to load playstation dics or any other discs for that matter

  1. The white plastic gear that moves the laser must make contact with the "motor". A bad contact here can cause disk read errors. Sometimes it looks Ok, but you may need to remove the lens and bend the white gear for good contact.
  2. The two rails on which the lens move must be very slippery - which can be lubricated with cooking or motor oil. Usually the holes where the rail is (on the right side of the lens) are dirty or you have to bore then out slightly, making the holes bigger.
  3. The lens uses little torx screw (black) that move the lens up and down on the rail. Usually the lens is too high and requires adjustment.
  4. Take the lens off these 2 rails and take the black plastic cover off. Turn the lense upside-down and you'll find there are 2 screws (silver, phillips or torx) that you have to remove to take the upper little lens off.
  5. Then you'll see a larger lens that is usually very dirty (this lens is a mirror to light). If that's dirty, it will give a disk read error. You'll have to take the little electric board off that you see on the other side of the big lens-mirror. It's probably dirty too, so clean it. Alcohol should work OK for this task.
  6. The lens bottom has 2 + 2 screws. You move the upper "little" lens up-down-left-right (this may require a special screwdriver)
  7. The motor "rail" that moves the lens must be very clean and oiled and the 2 rails too.

Aperture diaphram on mamiya secor lens 80mm f/2.8

The lens has a lever marked A/M near the aperture ring. If the lever is in the 'A' position, the lens will stay wide open until you trip the control lever at the back of the lens next to the rear optics. In the 'M' setting, you can see the aperture move as you change the f-stop setting on the ring. Set the lens to anything but wide open and move the control lever with your finger. You should see that aperture move.

there actually is a little gear inside that moves the lens and since you already opened it make sure the gear is there and moves. LOTS of problems with these cameras....
