Why kithenaid top load washer won't spin. Any ideas on how to troube shoot the proplem?

Hi

The washer is not spinning maybe due to motor not running or due to frozen pulley or broken belt. To confirm where the issue is check if the motor is running, if motor is running then its due to broken belt or frozen pulley. Remove the back lid of the washer and check if the belt is broken or disengaged. If belt seems to be fine then check the pulley.

However, if all of these is fine then the door lid switch is defective and due to that the machine is not entering the spin cycle. Inspect the lid switch; its located is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. Please post back for any further assistance.

How do i remove the lid switch on my kitchenaid washing machine?

remove the 2 hex head screws and 2 recessed phillips screws on the back side of the control pull control ahead and lift up to remove, then remove 2 bronze colored clips under the control panel, careful theres a lot of pressure on them so dont let them hit you when removing, then pull cabinet toward you,it will tip like a car hood, then unclip the connector and unscrew the 2 phillips screws that hold the lid switch in place, reverse procedure to re-install everything, please rate this if it helps you, thank you

The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

On the particular model you have listed, the lid switch should be located under the console near the right rear lid hinge.

You will need to use the steps in the link provided to remove the exterior case to access the switch to see how the actuator and lid hinge interface. You washer is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses Whirlpool parts, so these instructions will apply.

This is a very simple repair, but if you have any questions along the way, please let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

NOTE: If you have not pruchased a new lid switch yet, the part number is 8054980. It can be purchased at appliancepartspros.com for about $18.

Replace lid switch

You will need to not only remove the control panel, but you will also need to remove the washer casing from the frame in order to acces the switch. It sounds intimidating, but really isn't that difficult to do. The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

Your washer is manufactured by Whirpool, so these instructions will apply. Most commonly, the lid switch is located under the washer casing along the right hand side of the lid. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, your switch is under the washer casing near the right lid hinge. The mounting screw(s) and ground connector are under the operator console. For clarification, you can refer to pcappliancerepair.com for some excellent exploded view diagrams to assist you. The lid switch is located under the "Top and Cabinet Parts" heading.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know.

KitchenAid KAWS777E Washer will not spin

We are having the same problem. Try the lid switch. It is located just under the oval hole in the rim of the washer. There is a plactic pointer on the lid that pushes the lid switch down so the basket can spin. It is a safety thing. The plastic lid switch costs around $43 and is really not a problem to put in. Good luck!
