Does the older Dell have a wireless radio?

If not, you'll have to use an ethernet cable to the 2wire router or buy a wireless USB card for about $35 or less for the old Dell. I'm assuming you are running XP SP2 or higher system.

Connect to network wirelessly with in 20 feet when go down to second floor network indicates no internet , but it can find router , run network trouble shooter but not much , dell has not helped ...

Hello
Signal is either too weak or something is causing it to drop out.You can try a reboot of the router.
If this doesnt work then you may need to get a wireless switch to pick up the signal from the first floor to the second.Which will need to be located in an open area like stairs.Metal decking and flouresent lights can cause the signal to drop.

Or you can buy a cable and hardwire it.Or a stronger router with a better signal.

You can manually go into the network settings and delete the old network configuration, and set up a new one. If all else fails, go to your desktop (which I am assuming connects OK) and check the settings on it, and use those to set up the laptop. Hope this helps

Wireless not getting to my notebook

I have had the same happen on my laptop, some computers don't have a wireless network card in them so you need to buy one. All you need to buy is a Wireless USB Adapter. They are around (but no higher than) $50.00. Just buy a "D Link Wireless G USB Adapter DWA-110" For $50.00.

Will Dell Inspiron laptops pick up 802.11 wireless network?

I'd get the N-wireless card. It makes your signal much stronger, you pick up more signals, and you have less interruption. You won't get to see the full benefits without an N wireless router, but you will still notice an increase with a G router. I have an N wireless USB adapter hooked up to my desktop right now and I get 1-2 extra bars than I do with my laptop in the same spot (which has a G wireless card).

Wireless connection set up

Are you trying to hook up the laptop wirelessly to the pc? because then the pc would need to have a wireless card as well....sounds like I need more info, but if you are trying to do what I think you are, you should just get a wireless router instead, hook the pc tower directly to it via ethernet cable, and then setup the laptop to connect to the router. The router would hook to your dsl or cable router....what service do you have?

so your saying that your using the pcmcia card on an older dell laptop. everything else works but that...

have you tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing again? or maybe you need some updates on your D-Link wifi card.

older dell laptops usually have driver issues so be patient with that.

Inspiron 6000 has trouble picking up wireless signal

Some wireless cards are better than others at picking up weaker signals.
The problem with any wireless transmissions is that radio signals cannot pass through metallic surfaces.
You should position your wireless router away from metallic surfaces/walls and position your laptop so it can receive the radio signals without it passing through any metallic walls. If possible place the wireless router higher than at desk level.

Can't connect to my wireless network via my Inspiron E1705

Use the program that came with your wireless card. Do not let windows do the job. You will find this in your wireless settings. Is it the wireless device that came installed in your computer or an external device? Look at the wireless card and let me know what brand it is. This will help me with your problem. On your laptop you will have to take some screws off of the back to get to the card. Make sure that it is hooked up.

Try this link here and see if it helps.
