Question about Cadence Cat Eye Strada Computer

1 Answer

I have a Cat Eye Strada cycling computer model CC-RD200 that I have been using for the last couple of months. This model comes with a cadence sensor (as well as a speed sensor) that I cannot get to work. I followed the installation directions and the speed sensor has worked fine but the cadence sensor is not registering. I attached the sensor to the outside of my left chainstay and the magnet to the inside of my left crankarm. I made sure the magnet's path crosses the sensor line's path. I'm thinking that the distance between the sensor and the magnet is too far but why should this be so on my bike and not others? It doesn't seem to make sense. I installed it on a 1985 12 speed Fuji Espree. I don't know what I would do if it was the distance because I cannot get it any closer. Any help is very appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like you know what's wrong - distance. Take the magnet in your hand and wave it past the cadence sensor to see if THAT works.

As far as why your crankarm and chainstay are too far apart, well, maybe your bottom bracket is too long or something, but it is mostly beyond the scope of anyone who can't see it to judge. Take it to a bike shop and ask them.

I have an older cat eye computer. Wires. The cadence function stopped working. All other functions are good. I installed a fresh battery, I adjusted the sensor location. Still does not count cadience

If you take a magnet and pass it right by the sensor several times and get no cadence count then the wire is broken or the cadence portion of the computer is non-functional. Unless it's the wire and you can fix it you need to buy a new computer.

Where do I install the magnet cadence on my bike, the picture on the manual is not helpful. I have Cateye computer. Thanks for your help ~Ann

Hi there,
The sensor should be on one of the forks.
The magnet is attached to the spokes.
They should be positioned so that as the tire rotates, the magnet passes the sensor as close as possible without actually hitting it.
Zip ties and duct tape help with the minor adjustments and to keep wiring from getting rapped.
Have fun Mike

That's just how they are. The brackets are cheap if you happen to break one, but I've never broken one in ten years.
