Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

3 Answers

I have a Brother MFC-7420 that gets repeated paper jams. It will print the first page but then jams before the first is ejected. The first page is completed and there is a second page still blank inbetween the drum rear roller. If I remove both papers and it will again print the first page and jam the second. I have cleaned all of the pickup rollers and reseated the drum and toner cart repeatedly with no effect.

Just would like a second opinion as this printer error started after transporting it to a new location. when I first tried to print it would not pick up a second page from the tray. If I removed and re-inserted the tray it would print one page and repeat the error. I removed the tray and toner etc. and cleaned the pickup rollers. I now get the paper jam as described in my first post. Thanks again, Gary

Last "expert" sent me a link to brothers support pages. I have already tried all of the suggestions there. I am looking for help from a real expert not a link to support pages.

Turn off the printer.Pull toner cartridge from it then reconnect .Try with another cartridge then check. If still same issue then you need to do some servicing on fuser unit. For that open back cover of printer then you can find fuser unit open it from printer then open all parts of fuser unit like roller and other parts make sure roller is fine and there is not any small paper pieces.Clean sensor then check. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Do you have a procedure to remove the fuser? I cannot get it out of the rear of the printer to examine it.
    Thanks, Gary

wtf - you send me a link to the mfg's website and you call that a solution? Please do not waste peoples time by simply providing a link to a support page for the hardware in question. do you have any real solutions or experience repairing printers?

This happens because the second paper is loaded before the first one has finished printing. This is an error in the processor of the printer, the steps are no longer kept in check.
Sorry, there's nothing more that can be done to fix this printer, its processor is defective, time for a new one.

If it happened after a transport then maybe the fault is mechanical - maybe a gear slipped or is out of line, maybe a sensor is disconnected. You must dismantle it completely for a full inspection.

Paper jams brother mfc 7420

Paper Jams are routinely caused by bad roller in the printer. The Heat of laser printers can render these rubber roller pretty useless in a couple of years or less if you print often. If you have recently replaced the drum (according to the recommended print output number), Then If an $80 dollar roller + labor is worth it to you, go for it, otherwise buy a new printer and Brother gives the best ink value per page. hope this helps.

Brother MFC-7420 just started printing a shadow image

Sounds like a bad drum cartridge. Pull the toner/drum cartridge out of the machine and set it down. Press down on a (blue?) tab to release the toner cartridge, and you can lift the toner cartridge out of the drum cartridge. There is a cleaning blade in there - a soft plastic blade that rides against the drum and scrapes off toner that didn't get transferred to the paper. If it gets stuck off the drum surface, images repeat a few inches (one drum circumference) down the page.

A new DR-350 drum unit should fix it. have the machine's power on when replacing it. While the door is open, touch the CLEAR key. The display will read "REPLACE DRUM?" or something like that. Press 1 for Yes.

Brother MFC 7420. New Brother Toner, New Drum, cleaned feed and separator rollers, changed paper, still jamming. Paper stuck around brown fuser roller. What can I do next?

Check whether the fuser rollers are free turning. If the paper is stopped at the ejection roller, the ejection roller needs to be replaced.

Paper jams 1/2 way through drum/cartridge. Jams like an accordian, with 1/2 page printed. My printer is a Brother mfc 7420. About 2 years old.

Take the toner cartrige out, look around with a flashlight for a piece of paper or something that could jam the works. Check the movable tab that comes out of the front of the machine to hold paper up, maybe it has gotten crooked or something. Don't have anything in front of the machine to block the paper coming out. A can of compressed air can be used to blow the machine out.

MFC 7420 front paper jam

First you need to clean up your printer with duster and after thatn, check the toner and drum to see any paper jam or anything wrong,
Normally after you clean up the machine, should working fine,
if still not working, please replace the rubber roll.

Paper keeps getting jammed at the back

What happened is that the fuser has quit working properly. You would need to have the fuser replaced.
