My dell laptop gives a blank screen

black screen problem

Had to replace my power dc jack, when we put it back together it will charge, but the computer screen will not come on. We hear the hard drive and fan running and the cd drive make a noise. They seem to think it is my motherboard, could it have been put together incorrectly?

We tried what was suggested and nothing happened. We hooked to a desktop computer and still nothing, we checked video card and it is locked in place. The screen was just replaced about 8 months ago so I hoped that wasn't it, but we don't think so since it won't even work hooked to a desktop monitor.

Re-seat the video card and cable connected to the lcd,
and look at the lcd in a bright light held at an angle do you see a dim desktop.
and as linda says send the video to another external monitor does it display if not the video card needs re-seated or replaced.

if you got nothing on an external monitor then the system is not posting or the video card is still at fault.
remove all items you can from system , leave one memory stick ,
check the cmos battery for 3v voltage ,
    remove the laptop battery.
if the system has reset (some do) its in a very small round the outside of unit. similar to the cd rom eject hole. reset system,

    Re-seat the video card
    swap memory,
    swap mb

My 1501 Dell Inspiron turns on but I have a blank black screen. The only light that shows is the power light on the upper right side of the laptop.

Power getting to the laptop. Try first to see if this will give a screen image on an external monitor, listen for the sound of the cpu fan, hard drive and DVD rom drives clicking, see if the DVD rom drive will open if pressed.

Then remove battery and AC adaptor, press the power button for 30 secs, refit mains only and try this on mains supply (no battery)

If this fails to boot, check the light on the ac adaptor is a steady green, flashing green indicates power is not fully reaching the laptop (motherboard problems)

If it is steady and the LED power light on the laptop is steady, suspect the DC jack socket. If this feels loose or sloppy, it will need replacing, depending on the type fitted, it may be soldered onto the board, or a wired connector, which sometimes goes bad.

After that, I'd suggest that a capacitor has gone on the actual motherboard and you will need to strip the laptop to check it.

Battery won?t charge and AC adaptor not recognized

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that just turned two years old.

After one year, my dell 6-cell battery started to falter, so Ipurchased a new 9-cell battery. This worked fine until a couple ofmonths ago when I noticed that my 65W adaptor was frayed. I bought anew 65W Dell Inspiron 6000 ac adapter andit worked well for about a week until I noticed that my battery wasn’tcharging at times. If I was patient, or unplugged the adapter andplugged it back in, the battery began charging and all was saved.

This lasted only a short time until my Dell Inspiron 6000 batterywouldn’t charge at all for long periods of time, and sometimes thecomputer wouldn’t turn on, even if plugged into the wall. I thought itmight still be the adaptor, so I borrowed a fully functioning 90W Delladapter from a family member to test the system. This worked better, but still not great.

When I removed the battery and started only fromAC power, the functionality was also intermittent. Usually, if thecomputer actually started, I received the start-up error “The Inspiron 6000 AC AdapterType could not be determined, etc. etc. etc.” After pressing F1, thecomputer booted, but if the battery wasn’t in, the computer didn’tusually last long before shutting off. Unsure if maybe the battery wasthe problem, I put the 6-cell Inspiron 6000 batteryback in, and it too wouldn’t charge, although (together with the 90Wadapter) my computer would at least start more consistently if pluggedin. The error remained however, and sometimes the system stopsrecognizing power and switches to my ever dwindling battery power untilthe adapter is recognized again.

The problem is with the jack on the motherboard inside our Inspiron 6000’s. This is the jack you plug your power plug into on the back of the laptop.

Somehow the jack gets worn and does not make correct contact withthe laptop so the Laptop does not see the power supply as a legit Dellbrand. So the powersupply will not charge the laptop battery and run the laptop at the same time.

A bad connection between DC-IN power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with dell pa 12,dell e1505 and Dell Inspiron 6000notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix theproblem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it’s stillunder warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you. Problem symptoms:
93-06070-002_replacement-dell-pa-12.jpg
  • Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  • Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wigglethe power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  • The battery will not get charged.
  • When you plug ac adapter for laptop, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED * activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
To fix the problem, you have to take your laptop apart, remove the system board to resoleder or replace the DC-IN jack. dell pa 12 and Dell Inspiron 6000 disassembly guides will help you to remove the system board. Take a closer look at the power jack on the system laptop board witha magnifying glass. In most cases you get the power problem because ofa bad connection between the DC jack and the system board, you’ll see acrack between the DC jack connector and the system board.

My dell 640m short curcuit.I check uise multimeter at the battery prob +- ( 2 side have a reading).Laptop can't on....tq

1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

How do I replace fujitsu 2727 power socket

Get it fixed by going to jackfix.com , replacing the dc power jack requires taking apart the entire laptop, then removing the motherboard, and finally desoldering the power socket, and resoldering the new jack, and putting everything back together, its no job for a beginner. Not being rude at all, but if you have to ask how, dont attempt. http://www.jackfix.com , they have replaced many power jacks for my laptops, as well as my companies, they give a lifetime warranty, and will ship the laptop back to you within 24hrs. believe me, I have tried different companies, and they are def best.

Power failure

If it is an older battery it probably needs to be replaced. Sometimes when you remove a battery while the computer is running it makes it "freak out". Not mch you can do to test this except try a new one.

You may check power settings in control panel and see if somehow the settings for your screen are set to turn off or the power settings program has been corrupted for some reasons.
