I have the same problem - How do i solve it

    Folks;
I purchased two of your Sanyo Xacti HD digital movie camerafrom Ritz.com.
I had a two year warranty on one and bought one for my sonbecause I liked it so much. I havemany problems through the two years, I sent it twice for repair. My sons cameranever worked
Then my camera would show no image on the viewer screen, nolight through to the lens. I surfed the internet and found many people havingthis problem, a class action suit is being discussed.
Many people seem to think that lubricating the iris causesthe iris to not open, and by de-lubricating the iris. The folks I’ve had fixthis in the past told me it was a solder connection in the head that worksloose easily. Maybe a stiffner of sorts would be helpful.
No matter what it is, I would like to have my camera backand working, at a reasonable cost. Please feel free to call me if you need anymore information. And I have another camera to repair when this camera isreturned.
Thank you for all your help.

As I have been writing on other HD1/2 problems, sometimes it can be the card which is an issue. If the card is too slow or perhaps corrupted then the device can find it difficult to record.

This and other soft faults (that are reperable by turning the power on and off, changing or reinserting the card, removing the battery) are often indicated by a flashing red recording light.

Well i have a Sanyo J1 Xacti Digital camera and i lost the CD with the software to download the pictures from camera to Computer. Is there any site where i can get download it? Thanks

Try Sanyo.com - look for support button.

Most newer computers with newer operating systems will detect a camera/camcorder when connected to USB. Have you tried it without the disk?

I have an older Xacti that records to SD card. You can use a flash card reader to transfer files without Sanyo software.

I have intermittent problems of this type too. Occasionally I get a blank screen in the display mode.

Does the red light on the back of your camera flash while the screen is dark? Mine does.

It is beginning to bug me a lot. It may be because I got my camera wet in the past (and hence I have broken my camera), but I doubt that would result in a partial failure.

I think that the Xacti HD1/HD2 has issues a bit like a blue screen of death on an old Windows computer when faced with storage problems.

I.e. it works but crashes sometimes when it cannot store to its storage medium.

These things work for me
1) Turning the power on and off via the button underneath the screen.
2) Removing and re-inserting the SD card.
3) Turning the power on and off by removing the battery.
4) Using a different (and faster?) SD card.
I am still using my HD2, but I am finding that I must attempt solutions 1-3 about once a day.

It could be because the card I have been using recently is not fast enough. The HD2 accepts both SD and SDHC cards. My SDHC card (which is newer) seems to result in fewer problems, either because the SDHC format is more suited to the Xacti HD2 or becaues the SDHC card I have is faster that then SD card I have. I suspect problems with the speed of the card. I am using cheap SD cards.
