Question about Canon Cameras

1 Answer

The LCD screen of my canon g9 broke following a fall. I purchased a new one. I removed the back panel but can't see how to disconnect and connect the wiring strip or know how to remove the broken screen from the aluminium frame without bending or breaking it. Please advise

HERE is a link on the screen replacement on a G7, they are pretty much the same. Just have a look at the pictures.

If that does not help, here is a service manual as well. Click HERE>

My Canon Powershot G9 suddenly stopped working yesterday. It's just stuck with the lens extended. I've checked and the battery is OK. Nothing's working..no LCD screen, won't switch on or off etc.

This is a really common problem on the G7 and the G9. They get no power all of a sudden when two screws from inside the camera get loose and cause a short. It's not a cleaning as was suggested, your camera actually needs to be repaired. There's a great shop that only specializes in service for the the Canon Powershot cameras and they have this exact fix on their site. They charge $89 for everything. That takes care of parts, labor, the services for the G9, return shipping and they give you a pretty good warranty on the whole camera once it's been serviced. The cool thing with them is they do the correction to the two screws inside the G7's and the G9's that causes this no power problem. Here is the site where you can have it serviced: www.camerasandparts.com Everything comes out to $89 and they are awesome for service on the Canon Powershots. I hope this helps, all the best with it.

Canon powershot G9 will not turn on. Took it to Best buy. Its not the battery or the battery charger. Any suggestions? I took 4 pics yesterday, turned it off, then went to turn it back on to take another...

The Canon G9 has a problem where two screws in the top of the camera work themselves loose over time, then fall out and short out the fuse on what's called the DC/DC board.

This board needs to be replaced, both screws need to be found within the camera (if both fell out), and they need to be put back in place and held in with 'Locktite' so they don't fall out again.

If you do a Google search for "g9 no power repair" you will see in the #3 position Darntoothysam com, where you can have this repair performed for $85 total! This includes the part, installation, and return shipping of the camera.

If you want to do the repair yourself (no instructions included, sorry) you may purchase the part you need for $48 including shipping.

Hope this helps!

Electronic. Batteries charge but when placed in camera, camera drains charge after 3 or 4 shots. Does same with newer fully charged battery

The Canon G9 has a problem where two screws in the top of the camera work themselves loose over time, then fall out and short out the fuse on what's called the DC/DC board.

The screws laying on the DC/DC board can cause your batteries to be run down very quickly, and eventually will short out the camera when it doesn't happen right away like with your camera.

This board may need to be replaced, both screws need to be found within the camera (if both fell out), and they need to be put back in place and held in with 'Locktite' so they don't fall out again.

I DROP THE CAMERA AN THE SCREEN IS BLACK

Sounds like your LCD screen is broken or disconnected. If you do a Google search for "G9 camera repair" you will see the first three results are for "Darntoothysam.com" an affordable digital camera repair shop!

Click on one of their links, then do a search on their site for "G9" you will see the LCD repair service among other parts and repair services they offer. I can't link to it directly, Fixya doesn't like that!

Hope this helps.

My Canon g9 is having the "loose screw" problem. Where can I get it fixed?

You likely have loose screws inside the camera which is a really common problem on these models. That's mostly often causes this no power thing on the G9 as it shorts something out inside of the camera. An excellent place to get the G9 repaired is camerasandparts.com They have service packages on their site and one of them is for the G9 with no power. That site is excellent for repairs on the Powershot cameras.
