Don't mess with the tension, start over and rethread the top of the machine, I suspect that you don't have the tread seated in the tension disc properly. If that doesn't work then reset the bobin and make sure that is in properly.

Bernina KL 117. How do I adjust the bobbin tention?

By "crow's nest" are your referring to bird nesting? What happens is the top thread creates a mess of thread under the fabric. It is a top thread issue, not bobbin.

Remove the top thread from the machine.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Set the top tension at the midway point and retest your machine. Adjust the top tension until the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

If you need further assistance with tension, the following may help:

Understanding Thread Tension Threads

If the fabric is not feeding, then check the feed dogs. Are they moving backward, dropping, moving forward and then rising again? If not, then something is amiss with the feed dog mechanism. Check to make sure the feed dogs have not been dropped for darning. Another thing is make sure the stitch length is set high enough to actually advance fabric. There is also a presser foot pressure adjustment that, on your machine, is probably inside the top cover. There is a big screwhead directly above the presser foot. This can increase or decrease the pressure the presser foot applies to the fabric. Another possibility is that the feed dog teeth may be worn down with use.

Since yours is an older machine and possibly has not been used and oiled frequently, mechanisms may have seized over time.

My bottom tention of Bernina Deco 340 is to loose. How to I correct is. The top treat shows to much at the bottom

Um, the top thread is showing on the bottom of the fabric? The top tension is too loose. The two threads create a tension battle, one pulling against the other. To pull the bobbin thread up, tighten the top tension. The tension is accurate when the two threads meet "in the middle" of the fabric. On thinner fabric, you might see a tiny spot of bobbin thread on the top and a tiny spot of top thread on the bottom.

How to setup tention

Set the tension dial to the midway point between high & low number. (This is the factory standard. )

Then test on pieces of scrap fabric from your project. The tension is correct when both upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. If the upper thread shows under the fabric, it is too loose. If the bobbin thread shows on the top of the fabric, the tension is too tight. You'll probably need to tweak the tension to get it where it should be. Tension is not static and depends greatly on the needle/thread/fabric you are using. User should get comfortable with adjusting it every time a new project is begun.

Need to now where to put tentions to sew sweat pants.

use a couple of pieces of waste material the same as the sweat pants material and sew about an inch long
adjust the needle tension and do it again
repeat the exercise until the top and bottom thread joint at the middle of the two pieces of the material
tension settings on the machine are a loose guide as the thread thickness, material thickness and needle size all have a bearing in the tensions of the thread
so practice and adjust prior to sewing is the way to go

How do I adjust tension on a Necchi Lydia 510 sewing machine?

loops under fabric means top tension needs to be tightened
try cleaning the top tension dial with some unwaxed dental floss and see if that helps. if it doesn't then the tension dial may need to be replaced
also check to make sure the spool of thread is not getting caught on the spool holder
also try a new needle--one that is correct for the fabric being sewed

Loose stich on bottom of fabric

Hi. The problem is that your upper tension is too loose. It needs to be tighter in order to pull the bobbin thread up.

Singer 301a...sews on top of fabric nicely...bottom is just loose loops of thread...it's like the bobbin is not sewing...I put 2 different colors in to see...top is perfect...on bottom of fabric I see the...

This is a tension adjustment problem. It's good to use two different colors of thread, like you did. From your description, the top thread (needle thread) tension needs to be tighter. As you tighten the tension of the top thread, you'll see that the top thread pulls the bobbin thread up into the fabric so it's no longer laying loose on the bottom of the fabric.

You'll need to have the pressure foot down when you tighten the tension. Tighten it a little, sew a practice seam, check to see what the stitch looks like. Tighten it a little more, sew, check, etc etc--until both top and bottom look the same--you shouldn't see much (if any) of the bobbin thread color on top of the fabric or the top thread color on the underside.

Let me know how this works for you, ok?

Could not adjust both looper thread tention on singer ultralock

When servicing these machines I have found that the cover over the tensioners needs to be removed so you can see if there is more adjusting possible. If its a newer serger you would hold the knob somewhere in the middle (4-5) and adjust the knurled part that goes through it. Many times I have had to rebuild these tensioners as they get dirty and need cleaning and adjusting. It may take many tries until you have it adjusting correctly. But it needs to be done.
