Question about GE Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

My GE microwave regularly needs resetting. When the problem appears, the microwave no longer responds to the touch pad and starts running until I open the door. To get it working again, I just unplug and plug in again and it works fine. Usually, the problem starts when I shut the door. That probably messes up some circuit. Perhaps a circuit board needs to be replaced, but I await advice from someone experienced with these kinds of things. Thanks.

Hello

OK, this is most likely an circuit board error. I would advise you to first have a look at these new units. The thing is, i suspect this is a firmware related error, but if you are considering to buy a new circuit board, you need to keep in mind that the labor and the new board will probably cost you the same as a new oven.

So, i would suggest that you take the unit to the nearest repair shop and let them determine if this is a circuit/firmware error. It might just be an simple contact error.

If this is a circuit error, have a look HERE before you buy a new circuit board.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards
Andrea

Why is my GE mircowave starting by its self ?You do not even have to in the same room and it just starts running.

The touch pad could be giong bad and closing the contact by itself. A new touch pad should fix this.

GE model JVM5503 (1980): light and exhaust fan work, but touch pad does not respond to pressing buttons and therefore no functions can be initiated.

That would be a problem with your "touch control" but it is no longer available.

The oven will have to be replaced.

Sounds like it had a good run.

How do I get it out of lock mode

If the model number you have listed is correct, you turn the Child Lock feature on/off by pressing and holding the "Clear/Off" button for three seconds. The instructions are on page 28 of the Owner/Operator Manual.

If your model number is different from the one you have this question posted under, please post back with your correct information so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance.

I hope this helps you.

When pluged in the exhaust fan runs all the time and the key pad does not respond to any touch controls. this happened after an electrical stom. no other appliances have been affected.

It sounds like you need a new keypad. Unplug the microwave and then plug it in again. if you get an F3 error message it will confirm the keypad is bad.

Ge microwave works intermittent, when not working display reads F-3 and key pad does not respond

This code will occur if a shorted key panel is detected continuously over 60 seconds. Replace key panel (also called touch pad).

Keypad on ge spacemaker microwave oven not working

Needs a new touch pad if it doesnt respond, you can check the connection between the touch pad and the pcb, but it sounds like there is an O/C on the pad.
