My car stereo has frozen. None of the buttons do anything and there is no longer any sound. when i turn the car off, it still displays the time at which it froze and the CD track it froze on.

Disconnect your battery for 10 minutes, make sure you have your security remote handy as it will go off when you disconnect and reconnect the battery. The stereo should reset and the CD should eject.

first off is it the original stereo that came factory if it is try this solution: 1:turn ignition on but do not start 2: turn on stereo 3: do not touch anything else 4: wait 5-10 with stereo on and ignition on 10 min to be sure 5: after 10 min turn of ignition only remove key exit vehicle 6: set alarm 7: wait 10 more min 8 disarm alarm 9:put key back in ignition and set to on do not run 10: stereo should now work
What do you mean "unlock"? There shouldn't be anything you need to unlock to use the rear entertainment center. If you put a DVD in the display it should come on and if you press the DISK button on the front stereo, you should get the sound of the DVD over the main speakers. Please elaborate more.
after market stereo i presume? it sounds to me like the radio itself is defective if the functions are not doing what they are supposed to, pressing BAND on the radio should not switch it to blue tooth or phone, i would unplug the radio until you can get it repaired, taking out the radio fuse will still leave the memory wire hot.
I have come to find out that in the 90's auto makers started installing factory amplifiers in their cars so they could use low wattage stereos in the dash. It's usually a blue wire off the stereo that runs the amp, maybe it couldve become disconnected? I also know that even if you put in an after market stereo, this wire must be hooked up or you'll get no sound from the speakers. hope this helps.
May just be the wiring of the car or maybe something is loose or became disconnected. If the radio has been removed then that's an easy problem to get. It may also be the anti-theft system. Some vehicles can be very difficult to install a stereo system or any other add-on because of the way it's wired for the anti-theft.
I have also heard that some of the Jettas had wiring problems that were hard to trace. I know someone who had one that was an early 2000 model.
Try to find out if there were any recalls about that, but I would probably just get another one installed at some place that's experienced with radio installations because they would know how to wire these thing in. Hope this helps
