Question about Sony VAIO VGN-FW370J/H Notebook

1 Answer

On my Vaio vgnfw370j, the restore to factory does not work beyond 6% I purchased the backup discs from Sony another $70.00 however it does not bootup from the disk, I know it's not the hardware cause I've thrown in a few other system disks and it boots from all of them however not the sony disks. I already have spent good money on Sony tech support but all I have received for my money is someone reading from a book and incompetance and no solutions. They've had me reset the memory chips no effect, reset the bios no effect Anyone have any ideas, thank you

I think i would be taking this case to my solicitor/lawer.
If you have spend money and not received what you paid for, you must have a case.
If you have tested other bootable material, i cant see how your pc is at fault

How to factory restore sony vpceb42fx

Try this:
http://www.withsteps.com/275/restore-a-sony-vaio-pc-to-its-factory-settings.html

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to restore your Vaio PC to it's factory settings. In other words how to restore your computer to it's original settings (in the exact state you bought it).
For that you have to:
1. Back-up all your data. Restoring to factory setting means to erase all data and reinstall Windows, drivers and preinstalled applications. If you have a single drive (C:) you have to backup your data to external drive or disks.
2. Start VAIO Recovery Center. Click on Start button and then click on All Programs. From the program list select "VAIO Recovery Center".

3. Restore complete system menu. From the left menu of Vaio Recovery Center select "Restore complete system"

6. Read the information on this new window, select "I understand" and hit Start.

7. "Are you sure?" If you made backup for all your data and really want to restore your Vaio as it was when you bought it you have to make sure that have it plugged in to a stable source of energy and press YES.

8. So ... next you should sit back and relax. Your computer will start showing the next messages
Shuting Down

Restoring your operating system
Please wait a moment while Windows prepares to start for the first time...
Windows Vista setup: The initial setup may take up to 15 minutes. Do not turn off the computer. Click OK to continue the setup process and wait until the "Set up Windows screen appears". Select OK

    • The Windows Backup and Restore option opens the Backup and Restore Center provided with the Windows Vista® operating system. This provides the ability to save information from the hard drive, such as personal data files, and restore previously backed up data.
    • Computer problems related to hardware can be diagnosed using the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics option.
    • One or more drivers or factory-installed applications may be reinstalled with the Reinstall Programs or Drivers option.
    • The entire (C:) drive can be restored to its original, factory-installed condition by selecting Restore C: Drive .
    • Choosing Restore Complete System will restore the entire (C:) drive, while removing or restoring the Recovery Drive partition. Modifying the size of the hard drive partitions is also an option with this type of recovery. This option requires you to insert Recovery DVDs created using the Create Recovery Discs option.
    • To remove all data from the hard drive, including the operating system, all programs and personal data, choose the Wipe and Erase Data option. This option is provided for the convenience of advanced users who want to install a different operating system, and who want to ensure all data has been removed from the hard drive first. All other users are strongly urged to avoid selecting this option.

Hello,

I found these instructions for you on the Sony support site.

Solution
sp.gif sp.gif IMPORTANT:
  • Before performing a recovery, go to the Sony® eSupport Web site at http://esupport.sony.com and check your model-specific support page. Look for software and driver updates or check for knowledge base solutions that may help you solve your computer's issue.
  • This model does not require Recovery CDs. Recovery data is included on a special partition of the hard drive.
  • Do not interrupt the power during the recovery process.
  • Before performing a recovery, disconnect any external devices not supplied with the computer such as printers, network cables, cameras, or external storage devices, like hard drives or flash drives.
  • Customers who purchased the Symantec® Norton Internet Security® 2007 software from the Sony Style® store with their computer must create a Norton Account to save their product key prior to a system recovery or the software cannot be reinstalled.
