Question about Arris SURFboard SBG900 Wireless Router (DHSBG900)

1 Answer

My SBG900 router's NAT type is set to moderate when checked on xbox live connection, I tried typing the IP adress into a web browser and can only get to the log-in page, I read that the log-in is naturally set to admin/motorola but when i do this and attempt to log-in, it sends me back to the log-in screen. I'm just attempting to get my NAT to open and need a little help.

Try user as "admin" and passwords as "admin" or blank or "password" or "1234" then check. If still not able to access then you need to RESET it. For that press RESET button for 10 seconds reset button is in the back side of router. Then check. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

I do not know how to change my NAT setting to open on Xbox Live

First of all I would just like to cover the basics of strict and moderate NAT settings. For those interested, NAT stands for Network Address Translation and is used to prevent problems with information being sent over a shared network.
With the XBOX 360, Microsoft have defined three categories of NAT. These are:

1. Strict
2. Moderate
3. Open

You can see the NAT level for your XBOX Live connection by going into your
1. System blade
2. Network Settings
3. Test Xbox Live Connection

For you question on how to open your NAT setting follow the steps below:

1. Type the IP address of your router in a web browser.
2. It will prompt you for a user name and password once connected
3. After logging in you will have a control panel of setting up different settings in your router.
4. The IP address, and default user name/password are different on every route
Note: 192.168.1.1 is a pretty common address for most routers.
5. Check the manual that came with your router for that info.

I also provided a few links below of password lists of different routers.

I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa!

Helpfull Info

Sometimes depending on the router brand, it's not possible to open your NAT, this simpily becuase some are not specificly designed for Xbox Live purposes. A good example of this is Belkin routers. These brands are most commonly made for Buissness connection servers. If you are experiencing a STRICT/MODERATE Nat with a Belkin router, the chances are you are going to have to deal with it, but that is not 100% of the time. If you've have attempted several techniques to open your Nat and the changes arnt happening, i'd recommend a 'N' powerd Belkin router, the most majority of these routers work 100% perect for Xbox Live, I myself oned one but changed due to a broadband switch.

How do I change the NAT firewall protection? (Open/Moderate/Strict)

Find your IP address number then type it in on your web browser, this will bring up all your switchable options where several options can be changed to your approval. The NAT firewall is one of these options which can be changed. (like I mentioned before, if you own a Belkin router, the chances are even after changing the fireall level, it will turn back to moderate or strict)

I need to make my Nat type open instead of moderate. How do I do that?

I just opened my NAT type to play xbox live...using a SURFboard Motorola.
And this site helped me alot:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:d_5pu90czsoJ:news.softpedia.com/news/Guide-to-Opening-NAT-Xbox-360-71775.shtml+nat+type+xbox+360+open&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca

but watch this video first, cause it will help out allot too:

With these guides, and bit of web reading from other peoples FAQ's.. I did it.

The guide you need will depend on what modem/router you have.

Good Luck

Step 3 : The Default Password is admin

Step 4 : At the top Click Advanced

Step 5 : On the left Click Firewall Settings

Step 6 : Enable DMZ

Step 7 : give the IP Address of the Xbox/PS3/Wii in it

Step 8 : Uncheck the option Enable SPI

Step 9 : Click Save Settings

Step 10 : Test the connection

let me know if this works

I have a BEFSR41 Lynksis router and when i try to connect to xbox live it tells me my NAT type is Moderate and it should be Open. How do i change it to Open?

Xbox LIVE has default ports that needs to be forwarded on the router.

To forward the ports, access the setup page of the router. In your internet browser's address bar type 192.168.1.1.

Leave the username blank and then the password is admin.

Go to the Applications & Gaming tab, click Port Range Forwarding.

In the application field, type XBOX LIVE.

Start End Protocol
53 53 Both
3074 3074 Both
80 80 TCP
88 88 UDP

In the IP address field, type the IP address of the XBOX. Check the enable button. Then save settings.

Good luck!

make sure the security settings on router is WEP-Personal. I don't know what you have for internet but Dial-up, DSL, and satellite internet will not get NAT 1.

Change NAT to open

You need to open all the ports for the xbox live. The NAT of that router model cannot be configured to open. Its just a simple NAT for internet connection.

NAT type is strict and I need it Open for my Motorola SBG900

Firstly what you need to do, is go here:

PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

And choose your router. On the page, look at the first couple of steps. It will tell you to enter an IP address into your browser (ie 192.168.1.1) and then enter the username and password. Do that until you get to your router settings. Stop following that guide afterwards, because it's for port forwarding and not DMZ'ing.

Once you're in the router settings you need to find the "DMZ" page. Have a look through the menus -- it's probably under "Security", "NAT", "Gaming and Applications" or something like that.

You will know you've found it when you simply see a box to enter in an IP, and sometimes a check box saying "Enable". When you find the box, enter 192.168.1.50 into it. That's it, just save if you can.

Easy eh? Not finished just yet though. Now you need to go to your Xbox. Go to the last blade, the settings one, and choose Network Settings. From here choose Edit Settings and choose IP Address. Set it to manual and use these settings:

IP Address: 192.168.1.50
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Use the IP address that you typed into your browser to get your router settings up. Normally 192.168.1.1.

Now try to connect. Your NAT should be open. If it isn't, restart both your router and Xbox 360.

I typed this really quickly, so if it's confusing in any parts just let me know. I can post how to port forward too if anyone wants, but DMZ'ing is far more effective and easier.

If your DNS fails then do this:

Go to Start > Run and type "cmd". Then type "ipconfig /all". Take a note of your Primary DNS in there.

Then go to your Xbox, settings, network settings, edit settings, DNS Server, manual and use:

Primary DNS: whatever you took note of from ipconfig /all
Secondary DNS: not needed.

Changing nat on xbox live

I had this issue, and solved it recently. Everyone on the internet will tell you to forward ports, or disable the NAT setting, but these never worked for me. As I was about to give up and buy a new router, as a last resort I decided to call tech support. In about 3 minutes they fixed my problem, and it is much easier then port forwarding.

-First go into your 360 network settings and find its mac address.
-In the router settings move to the LAN tab.
-Then go to "dhcp leases".
-Under "current dhcp leases" your 360 should be listed (match the mac address)
-Make a note of the IP address listed for the 360, then delete that lease.
-Now Reserve a new IP address, enter in the MAC address and IP address you wrote down for the 360.
-Check the bypass firewall option (and give it a name if you want) and then add the new entry.
-On the same page, move up to "DMZ Host" find your new entry and click "apply"
-Click the option to reboot your SBG900, then restart your 360, and the NAT should be open.

I hope this helps, if I described it correctly it should be much easier then port forwarding, and more importantly, it should work.

Nat type

I have the same router (WRT300N) and this is what I did. I don't know if it will work for more than one Xbox360.

- Go to the Setting of the router.

- Applications & Gaming

- DMZ
. Enable the DMZ
. Choice the Mac Adress under the Destination.
. If you don't know the Mac Adress of your Xbox360 click on the tab: DHCP CLIENT TABLE
.Now from there choice your Xbox360 ( the Xbox360 won't have a Client Name but hopefully you only have your Xbox360 and your computer)
and now save your setting and restart your Xbox360 and there you go NAT open. This also help if you get any kind of  LAG while someone is on the computer using the internet, your Xbox360 will be high priorty to the router.
HOPE THAT HELP
