Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional
To me it sounds like your hard drive is not recognized.
One way to diagnose this is, is to open up the case and feel the hard drive to make sure it is indeed spinning.
Check to make sure the power and data cable are both firmly connected.
Check to make sure the hard drive is set for master on the jumpers.
It is possible you need to partition your hard drive before you install windows.
If there is a previous partition, delete it and repartition with ntfs fast partition.
