Question about Emerson Pool & Spa

1 Answer

I'm replacing the motor on a Hayward Super Pump (1 HP) and forgot to tag the wires going to the pump motor. I know where the green wire goes (to ground), but I'm not sure about the two (red and black) hot leads. The replacement Emerson motor has posts marked L1 and L2. Does it matter which hot wire (red or black) goes to either L1 or L2? If so, how do I identify which wire goes to which post?

This link should help you clear it up. The hot or neutral doesn't matter as long as it's not going to the same place:

Thank you and good luck,

The link seems to show a 115V setup with a hot and neutral wire. Mine is a 230V with two hot wires. Does it still not matter which wire goes to which post?

On the haywood superpump model c48l2n134b1 i have 2 wires to wire on L1an L2 witch wire goes were

Either wire can go to either line as long as it is only one line lead to each post. Rotation is fixed and unlike a three-phase motor, reversing the two wires does NOT reverse the motor rotation.

Recheck your wire connection on the motor. You likely put both your line wires on the same terminal. If not, try finding a local warranty center for a repair or replacement... http://www.haywardnet.com/locator/

green to srcew on the motor. this is ground.,
Black on T1

If the rotation is going the wrong way, simply switch the black to T2
Red to T1.

Check this before you couple it to the pump..

IF THE SCREW ABOVE IS IN THE METAL MOTOR HOUSING IT IS MOST LIKELY THE GROUND. GREEN WIRES ARE ASSOCIATED WITH GROUND IN ALL ELECTRICAL APPLICATIONS. YOU SHOULD BE SAFE IN HOOKING THE GREEN TO THE SCREW. HOPE THIS HELPS, JODY

Changing motor hayward 1.5 HP

Super pumps are very easy. If it is a northstar it is more difficult. Super pump. You will need 1 motor, 1 pump seal, 1 diffuser gasket, 1 housing gasket. turn off breaker, disconnect wires -noting whether it is 110 or 220 volts- , unscrew four bolts on back of pump housing (shaft side of motor), pull out motor with rear housing and diffuser (sometimes diffuser sticks inside), on wire side of motor hold shaft with wrench (flathead in some cases, but it is harder), unscrew impeller counter clockwise (like normal screw - you will nee a big pair of channel locks or a strap wrench), there are two pieces of the back housing and once the impailer is off you can remove the half that is closest to the end of the shaft to reveal four more screws, unscrew those four screws. screw back part of rear housing onto new motor. Install new pump seal to front part of rear housing and impeller, slide on front part of rear housing and then screw on impeller while holding shaft on wire side with wrench (only hand tight), replace housing gasket, replace diffuser gasket, slide into front housing and screw in four bolts. If electrical was 110 you will need to move the jumper on the wire end..if it was 220 then just hook kup wires...doesnt matter which is which as long as green or bare goes to the ground screw.
