I've got a Casio Exilim and after dropping it, it forever says that the card is locked regardless of what position the "lock" setting is set to on the side of the card. I've even tried other memory cards and get the same result. I'm almost about to give up and open the camera up and see if something inernal is "tricking" it to think its locked mechanically.

I have the same problem. it says "card locked" all the time. I have a bunch of cards and have tried them all in the locked and unlocked position, no difference. It must be a problem with the camera which really sucks as my wife just went into labor! My camera may have been dropped. It must be something internal that reads whether the card is locked or not that is broken. Did anyone open the camera up?

The switch on the card is a problem. Take out the card stop the switch by flipping (if it is loose) with the help of tape.

New A490 camera, loaded a new 8GB SDHC memory card, says "Memory card error". Checked to see if I need formatting, but format key is not usable. Can you help?

It's probably a manufacturer's error on the card or the card is locked.
  • did you check whether the card works OK on a computer? if it doesn't, it's likely to be a factory error. If it's new you can probably get it replaced.

  • If it's locked, it can be very easily fixed by yourself.
  1. Turn off cam.
  2. Take out the mem. card. (it's probably located near the battery. press down on it and release it. Then it will pop out.)
  3. Slide the small switch on the side of the card to the position marked with an unlocked padlock.
  4. Put card back in and turn on cam.
There you go. hope that helped. good luck and happy shooting!

Camera won't get past "Samsung" screen when mem. card is inserted

make sure there isn't a limit on the memory size for the camera, some models have a limit.
also make sure the lock switch on the memory card isn't in the locked position:

Memory card issue

First off what is the size of the mem card? Second did you make sure that you formatted the mem card with the camera before you tried to use it? What I would recommed is transfer your files to your computer FIRST. Then format the internal memory of the camera once you have transfered them over. Insert your memory card and then format the mem card. Turn the camera off and take your mem card out. Try taking a video. Turn off camera. Put mem card back in and see if you can transfer that video now and it should work.

Does not read memory card

Casio only tested 3 cards with the camera. Sandisc, Toshiba, Panasonic. First: Format the internal memory of camera and then reset camera. In rec mode press menu go to setup tab go up to format press right arrow highlight format press set. Follow same steps for resetting. Then insert mem card and format mem card. If that still doesn't work I would say there is something wrong with the camera itself and would need to be sent in.
